The late, great Angela Lansbury is due to feature in the upcoming whodunit sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, in what is expected to be her final role. Now, director Rian Johnson has revealed to Deadline what it was like to have Lansbury on board, who will star as herself alongside the equally late, great composer Stephen Sondheim.
While details of how both Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim will factor into the mystery of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, it has been revealed that they will appear as themselves in a video chat. Knives Out and its follow-up lead Daniel Craig also discussed what it was like to work alongside Lansbury, with the actor paying tribute to the actress and declaring that the Lansbury-led 1971 fantasy, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, is one of his favorites.
“They were so kind and so generous. We thought, my God, would either of them ever do it? We didn’t think they would. And both of them were so cool. For both of them, besides just the honor of having them in the movie, personally just being able to have 10 minutes with each of them to tell them what their work has meant to me was really special.”
Following the introduction to the brilliant Detective Benoit Blanc in 2019’s Knives Out, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery finds the investigator once again called in to solve another mysterious murder. Tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. But when someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.
