Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery director Rian Johnson hopes to start working on Knives Out 3 as soon as possible, with the filmmaker planning for it to be his next project. It seems that Johnson had so much fun bringing Glass Onion to life that he simply cannot wait to get started on a follow-up. Though, while speaking with Total Film, he admits he is still trying to work out exactly what Benoit Blanc’s next case will involve…

While we await the arrival of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Netflix currently owns the rights to at least one more entry in the franchise. But, if Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig have their way, the Knives Out series could go on forever and ever.

“I had for a while thought that maybe I should do something else first […] But the God’s honest truth is, I had so much fun making this one, and the creative challenge of figuring out a third movie that’s completely different from both this one and the first one — right now, that’s the most interesting creative challenge to me. So I might just dive in and see what we come up with.”

“If he keeps writing them, I’ll keep doing them,” Craig said earlier this year. “That’s what makes it easy then, he’s such a wonderful writer that it’s there on the page for me to do.” Johnson, meanwhile, is on board for making Benoit Blanc stories until the end time saying, “I’m going to keep making these until Daniel [Craig] blocks me on his phone.”

Knives Out 2 Will Land on Netflix in December

When the game ends, the mystery begins in the upcoming Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The follow-up will once again find Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) at the center of a sinister whodunit after tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.

Much like its 2019 predecessor, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has amassed a star-studded supporting cast alongside Daniel Craig, with the sequel set to feature Edward Norton as Miles Bron, a tech billionaire; Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel Toussaint, a scientist who works for Miles; Janelle Monáe as Cassandra “Andi” Brand, a tech entrepreneur; Kathryn Hahn as Claire Debella, a Connecticut governor running for Senate; Kate Hudson as Birdie Jay, a fashion designer; Jessica Henwick as Peg, Birdie’s assistant; Dave Bautista as Duke Cody, a YouTube star; Madelyn Cline as Whiskey, Duke’s younger girlfriend and channel assistant; and finally, Ethan Hawke as Miles’s assistant.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery had its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, with reactions so far praising Johnson and Craig’s return to the whodunit genre.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will receive a one-week limited theatrical release on November 23, 2022, before landing on Netflix on December 23, 2022.
