Based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay, Knock at the Cabin begins with a family heading off on a vacation at a remote cabin. Not long after their arrival, the young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

Much like the trailer before it, the poster finds us once again at the titular cabin, as Bautista and his small crew of cult followers ready themselves for what they must do. Wielding large weapons, the imposing figures transform the scenic location into something far more terrifying.

Will Knock at the Cabin be a Return to Form for M. Night Shyamalan?

Director M. Night Shyamalan has a far more divisive career as a filmmaker than anyone thought he would following the release of the critically acclaimed The Sixth Sense in 1999. Since then, Shyamalan has lurched from well-received genre pieces such as Unbreakable, Signs, and The Visit, to what many consider to be some of the worst movies of modern times with the likes of The Happening and The Last Airbender. Shyamalan’s latest offerings, the superhero finale Glass and the mystery thriller Old, were both met with polarized reviews upon release.
After much speculation, it has now been confirmed that Knock at the Cabin will adapt the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. The novel has received rave reviews, with seminal horror author Stephen King describing it as “thought-provoking and terrifying.” The Cabin at the End of the World was awarded the Horror Writers Association’s Bram Stoker Award for Novel in 2019.
Thus, considering the quality of the source material on which Knock at the Cabin is based, and with the cast involved, here’s hoping that the movie will find M. Night Shyamalan back in form and do the novel the justice it deserves.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and written by Steve Desmond, Michael Sherman, and Shyamalan himself, Knock at the Cabin is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 3, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
