The first trailer for director M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin asks you to make an impossible choice. Released courtesy of Universal Pictures, this newly released footage from Knock at the Cabin pulls back on the curtain on what has been a typically mysterious project from Shyamalan, and finds Dave Bautista and his small band of followers attempting to stop the apocalypse. Based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay, Knock at the Cabin begins with a family heading off on a vacation at a remote cabin. Not long after their arrival, the young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

M. Night Shyamalan Was Eager to Add Dave Bautista to His Latest Horror Outing

Knock at the Cabin finds Bautista once again demonstrating the talent he has exhibited in the likes of Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. Knock at the Cabin will seemingly find the former wrestler once again looming over the movie as a hugely intimidating presence thanks to his behemoth frame, but this time that frame will hide a quiet, gentle man underneath. A man terrified of what he must do to stop the world from coming to an end.

It was in fact Bautista’s performance in the Blade Runner legacy sequel that drew Shyamalan to the actor in the first place. “I was really taken by what Denis [Villeneuve] and Dave [Bautista] did in that scene in Blade Runner [2049],” the filmmaker said. “He was still in a way that was powerful. There’s a type of stillness where you’re not doing nothing; you’re doing everything and you’re still. Every cell in your body will do what it’s supposed to do if you’re thinking something correctly. And Dave was embodying all of this philosophy in that scene … I didn’t know who he was at that time, and he stuck in my head. So when this script came, I was like, ‘There seems to be one guy who can play this giant human being and do the stillness.’ So I asked Dave.”

Knock at the Cabin is scheduled to premiere in theaters on February 3, 2023.
