Several images and videos from the set of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Kraven the Hunter, offer our first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Marvel antihero. Kraven the Hunter is currently filming in England, and while it is a stuntman in the pics and clips rather than Aaron Taylor-Johnson himself, we do get a good idea of both what the character will look like, and the kind of physical feats Kraven will carry out during his standalone adventure.

Revealed by Twitter user @KravenNews, the video shows the titular hunter chasing down a car before leaping on top of it like some sort of animal. Which is pretty much Kraven’s strategy for everything. While brief and lacking Aaron Taylor-Johnson, this should provide comic book movie fans with just enough to have them wondering about the action sequences that will surely litter Kraven the Hunter when it screens in 2023.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Not much has yet been revealed regarding specific plot details for Kraven the Hunter, but it is expected that the movie will follow in the footsteps of fellow Sony Marvel movies Venom and Morbius, telling the origin story of the beloved supervillain. So, Kraven the Hunter is expected to follow the exploits of the Marvel character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for “The Amazing Spider-Man #15” back in 1964.

Born Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven was raised in Russia during the time of the Russian Revolution. After finding employment in Kenya, Kraven began his career using the typical tools of the hunter but over time developed a preference to take down large animals with his bare hands. After meeting a Voodoo witch doctor named Calypso, Kravinoff is given a herbal potion that enhances his strength, speed, and senses, as well as extending his life. Eventually, Kraven tires of big game hunting and is drawn to Spider-Man, slowly becoming obsessed with being the man to catch the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler.

The Sony Marvel movie has amassed a stellar cast alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, including Catch-22 star Christopher Abbott, who has been cast as the main villain, The Many Saints of Newark actor Alessandro Nivola, who has also been cast as a villain, with Russell Crowe expected to play Kraven’s father. Additionally, The White Lotus star Fred Hechinger will play The Chameleon, with Ariana DeBose recently brought on board to portray the witch, Calypso.

Kraven the Hunter Will Join Venom & Morbius in the Sony Shared Spider-Man Universe

Lead actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has recently discussed joining the world of Sony’s Shared Spider-Man Universe alongside both Venom and Morbius saying, “You do come at it from another angle, which is back-to-front for me. It’s like you’re coming at it from the physical aspect, because that’s what you can see from a comic book. You go, ‘Oh, he looks like that, so I have to look like that.’ You see that, and then you start to backtrack and dig deeper, and go, ‘This is where he originates from, then he has this relationship and that relationship…’ You just hope that you’re going to portray something that you can bring to life.”

Kraven the Hunter is scheduled to be released on January 13, 2023.
