Fans of the Jack Black-led Kung Fu Panda franchise are already getting a new TV series in the form of Netflix’s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, and now Universal has officially set Kung Fu Panda 4 to hit cinemas on March 8, 2024. Although there are very few details about the movie, with a director still to be attached to the latest addition to the adventure of Po and his various companions, this news of a new movie being in the works is good news at a time when Kung Fu Panda offerings have been available in abundance.
The Kung Fu Panda movie series stars Jack Black as the voice of Po, a wide-eyed Panda with a love of Kung Fu and food. Along for the ride is an ensemble cast of big name stars including Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rosen, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, James Hong and David Cross, and it is likely that many of these will be retuning for the fourth installment. While the films in their own right have been huge successes, the franchise has continued to grow over the years to include video games, short films and a number of TV spin-offs. So far, this has included Legends of Awesome, The Paws of Destiny and Netflix’s new series The Dragon Knight.

In the new series, Black will return to voice Po once again, while this time around his supporting cast includes Rita Ora as Wandering Blade, James Hong as Mr. Ping, Chris Geere as Klaus Dumont, Della Saba as Veruca Dumont, Rahnuma Panthaky as Rukhmini, Ed Weeks as Colin, and Amy Hill as Pei Pei.

With the next Kung Fu Panda movie now confirmed to be arriving in cinemas in March 2023, The Dragon Knight is no longer the only new Kung Fu Panda project to look forward to, and the new series will now bridge the gap until the movie arrives.
In Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, when a mysterious pair of weasels set their sights on a collection of four powerful weapons, Po must leave his home to embark on a globe-trotting quest for redemption and justice that finds him partnered up with a no-nonsense English knight named Wandering Blade voiced by Rita Ora. Together, these two mismatched warriors set out on an epic adventure to find the magical weapons first and save the world from destruction – and they may even learn a thing or two from each other along the way.
Whether Kung Fu Panda 4 will be a direct sequel to The Dragon Knight or not is something that will be revealed as the details begin to emerge about the film’s plot in the coming year. With the last movie being released in 2016, fans have been hoping for a new movie for some time and finally they can rest easy knowing that Po’s next big screen adventure is only a couple of years away.
