Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom star Ke Huy Quan who, after several decades of being away from the spotlight, has now received his first Academy Award nomination for his performance in the hugely successful absurdist science fiction flick, Everything Everywhere All at Once. The actor is up for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Waymond Wang, the optimistic (if a little meek) husband of Michelle Yeoh’s main character, Evelyn.
Ke Huy Quan is up against the likes of Brendan Gleeson for The Banshees of Inisherin, Brian Tyree Henry for Causeway, Judd Hirsch for The Fabelmans, and Barry Keoghan, also for The Banshees of Inisherin. It’s certainly a stacked category, but following Ke Huy Quan’s recent Golden Globe victory, he is in with an excellent chance of walking away with the coveted golden statue.

The overwhelmingly positive response to Ke Huy Quan’s return has had a big impact on the actor, who has barely been seen on screen since his childhood performances in the likes of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies. “To have this as my comeback movie and to get this recognition and warm embrace? I’ve cried so much in the last six months from reading the comments or from people coming up to me,” Quan said of the response from critics, audiences, and Hollywood alike.
“How often does a man in his 50s get a chance like this? How often do actors get a second act?” he continued. “I really hope that if people are reading my story, it gives them hope, it gives them courage to give voice to that dream they once had. It’s so difficult to be an actor in this business, and I want those people who are doubting themselves or have dreams fading away because they think it’s not going to happen…”
