While there have been plenty of updates about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, two prominent roles in the show have not been announced. Now Disney has finally revealed the actors taking on the godly roles of Zeus and Poseidon in the Disney+ series will be Lance Reddick and Toby Stephens, respectively.
The casting of the two stars was revealed via the Disney+ and Percy Jackson Twitter accounts, with a photo of the pair flanking the series lead, Walker Scobell. So far, there have been very few images and specific details about what can be expected from the show, but the announcement of Reddick and Stephens’ castings has rounded out the biggest roles.

The two new additions to the cast certainly come with the kind of credentials that make them solid choices for prominent roles in the fantasy production. Stephens previously played John Robinson in Netflix’s Lost in Space, and Captain Flint in Black Sails, while Reddick has a lengthy list of credits, including roles in John Wick, Godzilla vs. Kong, The Wire, Bosch, Netflix’s ill-fated Resident Evil series and The Legend of Vox Machina.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Will Look to Right the Wrongs of the Movie Versions

For both fans of the Percy Jackson novels and for author Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson series is a chance to tell the story of the son of Poseidon on screen in the right way. Although the books Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters were adapted into movies in 2010 and 2013, respectively. While both films did fairly well in terms of box office, neither were well received by fans of the book.
Like many movie adaptations, the story was drastically altered from the source material. Unfortunately, author Rick Riordan had no input in the movies, which led to him disowning the films entirely. Jump forward almost a decade, and now Riordan has the opportunity to deliver the vision he wanted in a long-form series that gives plenty of scope to expand and develop his characters to their full extent. When originally announcing the show, Riordan was enthusiastic about having the chance to make the series. He said:
Although the series did most of its filming towards the end of 2022, there are obviously a lot of visual effects to be added to the series, so the show will not make its debut until late 2023 or early 2024 on Disney+. In the meantime, we expect to see many more teases in the coming months, including those first looks at Reddick’s Zeus and Stephens’ Poseidon.
“This is great news, obviously, and we couldn’t have done it without the enthusiasm and support of millions of Percy fans making themselves heard. Thank you for that! Becky and I will be involved at every step of the process, making sure this is a show we think you’ll be proud of.”
