Lashana Lynch rose to prominence following her time on Still Star-Crossed before her career launched into the spotlight with her role as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. However, the 34-year-old actress wouldn’t need to wait long to see more big parts come her way, as she would step into the shoes of 007 two years later in No Time to Die in 2021. No, she wouldn’t be completely replacing James Bond; however, her character, Nomi, would take on his agent number while Daniel Craig’s character retired in the movies. After his return, the pair would work together to take down the villain, Lyutsifer Safin (Rami Malek).
Although Daniel Craig is officially done in the James Bond role, that doesn’t mean Lynch is ready to leave the world of spies and espionage. During an interview with Empire, the actress claims she has no idea whether she would return in any future installments or a possible spinoff centered on Nomi. “I signed up for one film and I don’t know if they entirely know where it’s gonna go,” she explains. “I genuinely don’t know anything, but it’s exciting to wonder!”

Despite her wishes to return, Lynch claims it was an honor to work on No Time to Die with all the talent involved in the project. “I’m glad that my culture, Jamaica and London, were encapsulated into this one film,” she says. “Jamaica hasn’t had a reprise in a Bond movie for a long time, so that was an honor, and then to have Phoebe [Waller-Bridge, co-writer] involved was perfect. I’m such a fan of her work.” Although Lynch was only signed on for one movie, her character could certainly see a spinoff project before the next iteration of James Bond completely reinvents the franchise.
Lashana Lynch Felt Represented in No Time to Die
Representation in Hollywood matters, and Lashana Lynch felt that No Time to Die went above and beyond with her character. Not only was she happy to present a Jamaican and London actress in a major blockbuster movie, but Lynch also felt her character accurately portrayed who she is.
“She represents awkward Brit girls like me who have a lot to say, but sometimes don’t really know how to come across,” Lynch says. “I wanted Nomi to have a little bit of that; still figuring it out. I didn’t want there to be this clean-cut version of the first 007 being a Black woman. I wanted to ensure that she was still trying to be quick on her feet, but also failing in ways and not showing it.” Apparently, her performance resonated with fans and studios, as Lashana Lynch has seen massive success in 2022.
Earlier this year, the actress appeared in a cameo during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, reprising her role as Maria Rambeau; however, she was a Captain Marvel variant with all the cosmic powers of her old friend. Then, she starred in the recently released The Woman King, following the historical events in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states in 18th and 19th century Africa. Later this year, Lynch is set to star as Miss Honey in Matilda, the musical arriving on Netflix this Christmas holiday.
Fans have a lot to look forward to with Lashana Lynch, as it seems her roles in Hollywood continue to get bigger. Look out for a possible appearance in the upcoming MCU film, The Marvels, although her role has yet to be confirmed.
