A new synopsis for Marvel’s upcoming series, Moon Knight, reveals further clues about the Disney+ show, and hints that the character will undergo some changes as he leaps from page to screen. Moon Knight will introduce by far one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most unique superheroes, as Oscar Isaac is possessed by an Egyptian god and uses his newfound powers to launch a brutal vendetta against the criminal underworld.

Revealed by Marvel, the new synopsis reads, “The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”

Suffering from dissociative identity disorder, the story of Moon Knight has typically followed the mercenary Marc Spector as the main character, with the series instead deciding to center on the British-accented Steven Grant. This makes a substantial change to the Moon Knight mythos, and suggests that the show will perhaps pick up with Marc after he has been left to die in the desert, making a pact with the Egyptian moon god Khonshu to spare his life and thus become his representative on Earth.

With the much more mild-mannered Steven at the forefront, it’s possible that Marc escaped into this other personality, forgetting his deal with Khonshu, and is now being stalked by him, with the god adamant that Steven/Marc must follow through on his agreement. This would explain some of the footage shown in the recent trailer, and why poor Steven has become so lost between his waking and dreaming life.

The latest synopsis puts more of an emphasis on the mystery, while an earlier logline described the series as being about a war. “A new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder,” the previous synopsis reads. “The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.”

Aside from shifting the focus away from Marc, several changes have also been made to Steven, with the character now a gift shop employee rather than a billionaire businessman. As demonstrated by the trailer, Steven hails from merry old England, with Oscar Isaac displaying an accent that has since been compared to such vocal wonders as Dick Van Dyke’s Mary Poppins effort and Don Cheadle in Ocean’s Eleven. With Steven Grant and Marc Spector now confirmed to be appearing in the Moon Knight series, and the character’s dissociative identity disorder being a crucial element, it is highly likely that more personalities will reveal themselves as Steven attempts to make sense of his life.

Directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and written by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart / Midnight Man, and May Calamawy, who has been cast in an undisclosed role. Moon Knight is now scheduled to debut on Disney+ on March 30.
