Legacies was home to plenty of villains throughout its four seasons, primarily due to its monster-of-the-week format. However, of all the opponents the Super Squad faced, some stood out more than others. Some of the show’s most prominent villains succeeded in being more significant threats due to their connection to the central leads or how they affected the rest of the show’s main characters. However, others struggled due to the length of time they spent as an antagonist. Malivore spends more time than any other as a central antagonist, being at the forefront of the chaos in Mystic Falls for three seasons. Every monster is affiliated with Malivore, thus making him the most prominent villain.

However, franchise alums, such as Kai Parker and Aurora de Martel, make good arguments for being more exciting or being the catalyst for more significant events than Malivore ever was. Meanwhile, the Necromancer became one of the show’s most amusing villains, given his attitude and how he was also one of the most constant the series had to offer. But, like its predecessors, Legacies was also not afraid to turn some of its main characters into antagonists, given the dark journeys of Hope and Josie.

8 Malivore

     Warner Brothers Television Distribution

Malivore spends three seasons being the overall Big Bad on Legacies, which is also the biggest drawback for the villain. Malivore spends most of his time as a giant mud pit stuck in Triad. While various monsters are sent out to help him, Malivore is not that big of a threat for the most part. It is not until Malivore gains possession of Landon’s body that he is given a voice and a body of his own to use. At that point, though, it is too late to save Malivore as an intriguing villain, as his time on the show already feels like he should have been defeated long before to allow Legacies to move on. Malivore’s death is a relief for Legacies to finally move on from Malivore and focus on other oppositions.

7 Ken

Ken has the opposite problem as Malivore. Not enough screen time to truly develop, but given ultimate power as a God. Ken’s motivation tends to come from his desire to continue being considered the most powerful supernatural being in the world, a title that Hope Mikaelson, a fully activated Tribrid, has seemingly stolen from him. However, while Ken spends time with Aurora, trying to get her on his side, Ben explains Ken’s power to the Super Squad. Due to Ken being a God, he is a more significant threat due to holding capacity, more so than being an intelligent antagonist, and he is not given much time to develop outside that portrayal, given how he only appears in the back half of season four.

6 Ryan Clarke

Although Ryan Clarke may not be the evilest person, his actions certainly gain results. His impersonation of Professor Vardemus allowed him to sneak into the Salvatore School undetected as the new Headmaster. His access to the students permitted Clarke to slowly manipulate Josie into slipping into dark magic. However, Ryan Clarke’s motivations mostly came from wishing to kill Malivore for ruining his life. In the end, Ryan Clarke became a mix of an enemy and ally to Hope at various times.

5 Aurora de Martel

Aurora de Martel had already been established from her time on The Originals. Her advantage means that Aurora’s connections to the universe are already understood, and her backstory can be stripped down to what Hope and Lizzie need to know. For example, Aurora is baiting Hope at the height of her villainy and temporarily steals her body. But, while Aurora’s desire for revenge against Klaus has her chasing after Hope, Legacies gifts Aurora the development and character analysis that The Originals never offered. Doing so allows Aurora to have an unexpected connection to Lizzie while showing that Aurora is capable of stopping the cycle of violence and stepping away from her anger at Klaus by saving Hope.

4 Kai Parker

Kai Parker is the first major villain with a significant history in The Vampire Diaries Universe. His connections to Josie, Lizzie, and Alaric were already understood, as Kai had attempted to kill the twins and succeeded in taking away their biological mother’s life. When Kai returns to Legacies, he is ready to leave the prison world and leaves Josie with one last way to save her family from the future destruction of the prison world if she takes in all the dark magic. Although Kai only appears in two episodes, he delightfully torments everyone he interacts with. While Alaric kills Kai in a moment that was a long time coming, Kai’s return, although short, is a solid reminder of what a real villain could do to shake things up.

3 No-Humanity Hope

For most of season four, Hope is a full Tribrid without her humanity and is on a quest to cause chaos or later massacre the remaining members of Triad. To kick-start, her No-Humanity arc, Hope brutally harms Alaric as a warning to the rest of the Super Squad not to come after her. Alaric ends up in a coma, and Hope goes about her life. No-Humanity Hope also murders Lizzie after discovering Lizzie’s plot to kill her out of revenge for what Hope did to Alaric. She also verbally terrorizes the rest of the Super Squad in their attempts to bring her humanity back. Without her humanity, Hope is ruthless to her enemies. However, most of the arc has her separated from her friends, only coming back to them when Hope discovers she is in trouble and will need help to defeat a new enemy.

2 Dark Josie

Josie’s dark side is a slow-building arc that truly begins at the beginning of season two. Over time, Josie continues to dip her toe into dark magic waters at the encouragement of the disguised Ryan Clarke. But, when Dark Josie finally does take over, it may not be for long, but it is impressionable. With her dark persona at the wheel, Josie murders Alyssa Chang, dangerously siphons from MG, and attempts to Merge with Lizzie. Dark Josie even teams up with the Necromancer. However, even after Dark Josie is defeated, she remains to be an integral part of Josie. Josie must learn to accept the darker aspects of her and understand that people are not all good or all bad. Josie even starts to learn how to control her darker impulses, a trait she uses in her attempt against No-Humanity Hope.

1 The Necromancer

The Necromancer may not be the evilest villain to ever appear in Mystic Falls, but he certainly has some of the most charisma of the Legacies villains. As one of the most constant antagonists in Legacies, the Necromancer causes mayhem for the Super Squad, whether it be through encouraging Dark Josie, killing and resurrecting Rafael, attempting to raise Malivore, or his frenemy dynamic with Landon. The Necromancer is also one of the most developed villains in Legacies, given he gains a backstory and an alternate identity in Ted, a more human-looking portrayal of the character. As Ted, he is the only antagonist in Legacies who certainly makes it to Peace, given Landon’s promise to him.
