LEGO Star Wars fans can rejoice because the next special is on its way! Following the 2020 Holiday Special and the 2021 Terrifying Tales, the 2022 special follows our favorite rebels and villains as they celebrate summer after everything they went through in the sequel trilogy. LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation features Finn (Omar Miller), Rey (Helen Sadler), and some other familiar faces from across the galaxy.

A trailer for the special dropped on June 21, giving fans a peek at what to expect. The released synopsis details that Finn has surprised his friends with a summer vacation, but things go wrong when he gets separated from them. The trailer gives a better look at the vacation he planned and how he comes to terms with being away from his friends. From limbo to specialty drinks, let’s break down what information the trailer shared.

Learning What Makes a Vacation

Finn, Poe (Jake Green), Rey, Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), Chewbacca, and the droids are spending the summer together on the Halcyon starcruiser, a surprise from Finn before they all go their separate ways. The story is set right after The Rise of Skywalker, so it’s understandable that the group needs some time to unwind from everything they’ve been through.

It looks like right from the start of their relaxation time that things are not what they seem. Finn starts having conversations with ghosts, which he thinks are hallucinations or a side effect of the drink he’s been sipping. He and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s (James Arnold Taylor) ghost seem to have a heart-to-heart, ending with Finn asking what the Jedi knows about vacations anyway. The trailer immediately cuts to a scene of a younger Obi-Wan partying with Jabba the Hutt (Kevin Michael Richardson). Jabba’s wearing a party hat and the Jedi is leading the crowd in a chant.

Finn seems to realize that a vacation isn’t about where you go but the journey you take while you’re there. He ends up getting separated from his friends on the huge starcruiser and thinks his vacation is ruined if he isn’t spending it with his friends. While ghost Obi-Wan shows Finn one of his vacations, based on the trailer, it looks like a past vacation of Leia (Shelby Young) and Ben Solo’s (Matthew Wood) is featured as well. The synopsis given by Disney+ gives a bit more information on why Finn is taking a look into the ghosts of vacations past.

From what the trailer shares about the previous vacations, it isn’t clear how they went wrong, but it seems like they had a great time, despite the challenges.

While searching for his friends, he encounters three Force ghosts: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Leia Organa, who each share their own unexpected stories of vacations gone wrong, helping him to understand that holidays are about more than just having fun.

Droids Just Want to Have Fun

It isn’t a holiday without the droids getting confused. C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) thinks because it’s a “holiday,” it’s Christmas, so he and R2-D2 throw on their Christmas sweaters. Thankfully, Poe lets them know they’re thinking of the wrong kind of holiday. They seem to settle in, though, with C-3PO and R2-D2 wearing robes and BB-8 with a (presumably hot) towel on his head. At one point, C-3PO is carried around by Ewoks and there’s an appearance from R-3PO crowd-surfing, both of which appear to be flashbacks to past vacations.

One thing is for sure about Summer Vacation: the droids are having a great time.

A New “Weird Al” Song

The ending of the trailer reveals Star Wars fans will get to experience the new original “Weird Al” Yankovic song “Scarif Beach Party” in the special. The song plays for a bit towards the end of the trailer, and it feels catchy and fun. Yankovic also voices a character in the special. Vic Vankoh is a musician that seems to be leading the summer festivities on Scarif’s beaches, a vacation presumably in the past based on who is there. It looks like he’s leading fun games like limbo to determine who the “rulers” of the beach will be.

This statement from Vic immediately grabs Emperor Palpatine’s (Trevor Devall) attention, and he and Darth Vader (Matt Sloan) are determined to win. They even swap out the limbo pole with Vader’s lightsaber, causing the next contestant to be vaporized. Maybe their attempt to be beach rulers is what went wrong on their vacation? Vader is wearing a hat with rainbow-colored Porgs on top during this sequence, which is a must-see. It also gives hope that the adorable birds will make an appearance in the special.

The Summer Vacation special will be available to stream on Disney+ starting August 5, 2022. Until then, be wary of evil emperors asking you to put sunscreen on their backs.
