Mann, who would have made her small screen debut with The Power, had originally boarded the project in 2019. Meanwhile, Robbins had come into the project last year as a replacement for Rainn Wilson, the actor who’d originally been cast in Robbins’ role. Pandemic-related delays had caused Wilson to leave the project. That role will now need to be cast for a third time.

Most recently, Mann could be seen in The Bubble, a meta-comedy film by Judd Apatow released to Netflix earlier this year. She is also set to be seen in the upcoming film Cha Cha Real Smooth, which hits Apple TV+ on June 17. As for Robbins, the veteran actor has in recent years starred in HBO’s Here and Now and Hulu’s Castle Rock. It has also been reported that Robbins will be featured in the upcoming sci-fi series Wool.

The Power Is Based on the Original Novel

     Columbia Pictures

The Power is based on the original novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman. The series was supposed to star Leslie Mann as Margot Cleary-Lopez while Tim Robbins would have played Daniel Dandon. It is produced by Sister Pictures and directed by Reed Morano. On board to executive produce are Morano, Alderman, Jane Featherstone, and Naomi de Pear. Tim Bricknell is producing and Sarah Quintrell is co-executive producing.

The official synopsis for the novel The Power reads:

Per Deadline, the Margot Cleary-Lopez character is the “mayor of Seattle and the loving wife and doting mother to three kids. At least that’s what her official campaign website would tell you.” Daniel Dandon is the “self-righteous and self-important Republican governor of Washington state and constant thorn in the side of Democrat Cleary-Lopez.” The Daniel character’s role was reportedly reduced from a series regular to recurring when it was originally recast from Rainn Wilson to Tim Robbins, but with Robbins out, it’s unclear if that will remain the plan for the character moving forward.

The Power does not yet have a release date.
