Following criticism for its lack of diversity, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the Golden Globes, is attempting a return this year. The program is being televised on NBC once again after the network choose not to host the show last year, per CBS News. After years of scandal and instability, 2023’s showcase of actors, films, and television programs seems to have a little more diversity and equality.
James Kleinman, editor of The Queer Review, a website that evaluates LGBTQ+ television and motion pictures told NBC, “This year does definitely feel like a full-on celebration of queer talent. It sort of makes you feel like we’re everywhere — and the Golden Globes are right to have noticed that.” An openly homosexual emcee, LGBTQ+ nominees, and even a well-known gay writer and producer receiving the association’s lifetime achievement award are all featured at the event.
