20th Century’s White Men Can’t Jump reboot will feature Jack Harlow’s acting debut. The 23-year-old musician, whose 2020 album That’s What They All Say peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard 200, has just been cast in the upcoming White Men Can’t Jump movie. Deadline reports that Harlow will play the role originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original film, one of the two leads alongside Wesley Snipes....
David Chase, the creator and producer of the multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winning critically acclaimed series The Sopranos, announced today that legendary musician, and Sopranos star, Steve Van Zandt will produce and supervise the music, as well as serving as an Executive Producer, for the director’s music-driven coming of age story set in 1960’s suburbia, formerly known as Twilight Zones. Chase, who is making his feature film directorial debut, simultaneously announced that actors John Magaro, Jack Huston and Will Brill will star in the movie, to be released by Paramount Vantage....
J-Lo gives us the business in regards to her Hector Lavoe biopic It has been five years in the making, but producer Jennifer Lopez is finally bringing her Hector Lavoe biopic to the screen with “El Cantante.” Not only did she serve as a producer on the film, she also stars as Hector’s devoted wife Puchi. It’s a stunning performance that captures the true heart of the woman. This is a bravado turn for Lopez, and it should redeem some of her screen cred after having appeared in a string of flops....
It’s kind of odd that almost every movie about gambling is actually pretty good, if not great. Owning Mahoney, Hard Eight, Croupier, Maverick, Casino, California Split, The Card Counter, The Cooler, Atlantic City, Mississippi Grind, The Cincinatti Kid, The Sting, The Hustler, The Color of Money, and Rounders, maybe the best poker movie of them all, are actually great pictures, the lot of them. Even those films tangentially related to gambling, such as Rain Main, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and House of Cards, garner excellence as if by proximity to the subject....
John Cena made quite an impact in Peacemaker, the James Gunn created spin-off show from The Suicide Squad, and he made sure that his interviews promoting the series were just as colorful as the show itself by turning up in his Peacemaker costume. Now Cena has revealed that his motivation in dressing up for the occasion was simply to make sure that people came to recognize the character’s appearance, just like he used to in his wrestling days....
Jonathan Rhys Meyers will star as the mysterious hero of Omega Entertainment and Baldwin Entertainment Group’s Mandrake the Magician, with The Scorpion King helmer Chuck Russell behind the camera, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Billed as an updated take on the classic Hearst comic book, the Mandrake character is an extreme escape artist embroiled in international espionage. Mandrake the Magician marks the first picture to result from Omega and Baldwin’s first-look production deal....
The cast of Saturday Night Live had a fun treat for 90’s babies involving Keke Palmer, Kenan Thompson, and Kel Mitchell. The episode in question featured a mock documentary about the production of an official reboot of Thompson and Mitchell’s classic Nickelodeon sitcom, Kenan & Kel. The sketch itself can be viewed below. The skit follows Palmer as she pitches a new project to Thompson. Much to his surprise, the project ends up being a reboot of the popular 90’s series rather than a “Jordan Peele-produced streaming series” titled “Kenan and Kelly....
Although we haven’t heard anything official regarding the Kick-Ass sequel Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall in quite some time, comic book creator Mark Millar has revealed that the sequel will go into production this summer, along with American Jesus. It doesn’t seem that Matthew Vaughn will return to direct Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, although it is believed he will remain on board as a producer. We reported last month that Matthew Vaughn will direct the X-Men: First Class Sequel, although no production start date was released....
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts has officially dropped at Netflix. After spending her entire life living in an underground burrow, a young girl named Kipo (Karen Fukuhara) is thrust into an adventure on the surface of a fantastical post-apocalyptic Earth. She joins a ragtag group of survivors as they embark on a journey through a vibrant wonderland where everything trying to kill them is downright adorable. The series is created and executive produced by Radford Sechrist (How to Train Your Dragon 2) and executive produced and developed for television by Bill Wolkoff (The Man Who Fell To Earth)....
According to Production Weekly, Larry Charles, (Borat) is in pre-production on his next film The Dirt, a Mötley Crüe biopic based on the rockers’ 2001 book “The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.” Rich Wilkes adapted the book written by bandmates Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Vince Neil with writer Neil Strauss … tells the story of the band’s rise, complete with all the ups and downs in friendships, on tour and in the studio....
Robert Plant has revealed that he was offered a chance to appear on Game of Thrones, but decided to turn it down. The hit HBO series has a history of involving musicians from all different types of genres including, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Mastodon, and Ed Sheeran, to name a few. There’s even an album coming out with Game of Thrones-inspired music, which will include some of the aforementioned artists as well as some newcomers and others who have had roles on the show as well....
Apparently, Leo DiCaprio has his eye on Prisoners, an Aaron Guzikowski-scripted drama that Alcon Entertainment partners Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson bought last year. According to Deadline, Prisoners has a Mystic River-meets-Taken storyline, and DiCaprio wants to play a small-town carpenter who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter and her friend are kidnapped. “In the 12 years we’ve run this company, this is the most interesting, morally complex thriller we’ve ever gotten, and we can’t wait to make the movie,” Kosove told me....
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the greatest actors of our generation. But in his upcoming movie Don’t Look Up, DiCaprio also demonstrated his writing chops. Don’t Look Up features a scene that involves DiCaprio’s character, Dr. Randall Mindy, having a breakdown on national television. Apparently, the Shutter Island actor pushed to have that scene before he joined Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, and it ended up being a major highlight of the film....
Let the Right One In is an upcoming Showtime series based on the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist. Though this isn’t the first time the story’s been adapted, it is the first to be brought to television. Previously, in addition to other media, two film versions were made in 2008 and 2010, respectively. As a first-time showrunner, executive producer Andrew Hinderaker told Entertainment Weekly that his small-screen version wasn’t the easiest project that he could have chosen....
According to Variety, The Jim Henson Co. has set Genndy Tartakovsky to direct Power of the Dark Crystal, sequel to 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal. Tartakovsky, who created the animated series hits “Samurai Jack,” “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” will involve his Orphanage Animation Studios to take the lead on the CG animation elements for the puppet-driven film. Brian Froud has returned to design the new characters....
The teaser trailer for The Little Mermaid live-action remake that was recently released by Disney provided our best look yet at lead star Halle Bailey as the new Ariel. Though the teaser was short, it also provided a sample of Bailey’s singing as Ariel by including her rendition of “Part of Your World.” The teaser, which you can watch below, ends with a close-up of the new Ariel, introducing Bailey as Disney’s first live-action Black princess....
The Emmy-winning HBO drama series The Newsroom will begin production on its third and final season this spring, with a debut slated for fall, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, who offered the following statement. Created by showrunner Aaron Sorkin (Oscar winner for writing The Social Network, executive producer and creator of the multiple Emmy winner The West Wing), The Newsroom follows the members of a cable news team on their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of a fickle audience, corporate mandates and tangled personal relationships....
