It has been announced that Helen Slayton-Hughes, best known for her unforgettable role as Ethel Beavers in the hit comedy series Parks and Recreation, has passed away. The news comes from the Facebook page for the actress which includes a video tribute along with a statement addressing Slayton-Hughes’ death. The Weinstein Company is pleased to announce Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds surpassed Pulp Fiction at the box office and is now the filmmaker’s highest grossing film ever. Inglourious Basterds has now grossed over $108 million in North American box office receipts since its initial release on August 21, 2009. Pulp Fiction, previously Tarantino’s best North American performance, took in $107,966,120 in its North American release. Inglourious Basterds is an international success for TWC and its partner, Universal Pictures....

Emblazoned on the side of Sinn Féin’s headquarters on Falls Road, Belfast, is the grinning portrait of the revolutionary IRA member, Bobby Sands. Yesterday, The CW confirmed that there will be a two-part musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl, debuting in the back half of this season. Very little is known about the story, although producer Greg Berlanti teased that they are trying to write one original song for each episode. Most of the songs will be covers of previous hits. Today we have some potentially huge news, with a report claiming that this two-part episode will be directed by none other than Joss Whedon, along with details on the crossover’s villain....

MTV reports that Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers) is currently working on a film that is based on a video game. However, the director wouldn’t reveal which game it was. “I am working on a movie now that is… situated in 1914. Basically, Indiana Jones-ish you could say, but also Hitchcockian,” he explained in a recent interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz. “We are scripting it. It’s an idea that exists already… from another medium, and so we are making it now into a film narrative....

Filmmaker James Gray has just landed an appropriate new project, signing on to direct an adaptation of The Gray Man, an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s novel, for New Regency. Adam Cozad is adapting the novel, which revolves around a former CIA agent-turned hitman. He goes on a dangerous mission across Europe to save his CIA handler and his family. Cozad is no stranger to the spy world, as he just recently wrote Moscow, Paramount’s reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise which will star Chris Pine....

Jared Leto, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Morbius, recently commended superhero movies for keeping cinema alive. Set to arrive next month, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the titular antihero, Dr. Michael Morbius, who attains vampire-like superhuman abilities after his attempts to cure his rare blood disease go awry. In an interview with Variety, Leto talked at length about the upcoming film and his future playing the character. The Oscar winner also mentioned how Marvel saved cinema after the pandemic wreaked havoc on the film industry....

We have a fair wait until we see Halle Bailey swim into theaters as Ariel in Disney’s live-action reimagining of The Little Mermaid, but star Javier Bardem has already been heaping praise on the young lead, saying that it is intimidating starring alongside the actress mainly thanks to her stunning vocal talents. Even though filming has wrapped on the movie, the final film doesn’t hit cinemas until 2023, but as you would expect anyone appearing in the movie is going to be asked questions about it in every interview between now and then, with Bardem’s comments coming as an example....

Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, is at the center of the new Netflix documentary jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy. The three-part documentary will premiere on Feb. 16, giving Netflix subscribers a deeper look into Ye’s history than ever seen before. Ahead of the premiere, the streamer has released a new official trailer teasing the footage that’s to come, which takes us back to the start of Ye’s rise in hip-hop that began over two decades ago....
