With the Twilight buzz still circling, Kristen Stewart has signed on to portray Joan Jett in The Runaways, a rock ’n’ roll biopic about the 1970s all-girl band. According to The Hollywood Reporter, video director Floria Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and is directing, while John and Art Linson and River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad are producing. Jett will act as an executive producer. The Runaways were hugely influential as the first successful all-girl hard rock band; its members included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox....
The classic Kung Fu TV series starring David Carradine is getting a female-led reboot at The CW. Inspired by the original series created by Ed Spielman, the new series is the result of a new collaboration from the Blindspot team of writer Christina M. Kim and creator Martin Gero. In addition to writing the new Kung Fu series, Kim will also be executive producing alongside Gero, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros....

Sad news has hit Hollywood as Gavan O’Herlihy has reportedly passed away. The veteran actor, who originally appeared on Happy Days and whose memorable big screen credits included classics like Never Say Never Again, Willow, and Superman III, was 70 years old. The news was published by the Irish Echo, though a cause of death hasn’t yet been revealed. According to Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures’ longtime plan to bring sitcom classic Get Smart to the bigscreen has cleared two major hurdles, with Peter Segal hired to direct and TV showrunners Tom Astle and Matt Ember brought on to adapt. When The Tragedy of Macbeth released last year, there was some cause for concern. After 18 films, including such classics as Raising Arizona, Fargo, and The Big Lebowski, Joel Coen, for the first time, offered audiences a movie that did not feature the involvement of his younger brother, Ethan Coen. However, Joel Coen’s sole directing credit wasn’t a first for the filmmaker. From his debut, Blood Simple (1984), through Intolerable Cruelty (2003), Joel Coen was credited as director, but it was understood that the films were equal collaborations with his sibling, who had co-written, and produced all of the projects as well....
HBO has picked up Australian comedian Chris Lilley’s new comedy Angry Boys. According to Variety, the channel is co-producing Angry Boys along with the Australian Broadcasting Co. Pre-production on Angry Boys, which will shoot 12 half-hour episodes, begins in Australia this month. The show will be shot in a mock-documentary style and revolve around what its like to be a male in the 21st century.
