Google and YouTube are becoming fast friends. In a story from Home Media Retailing, Google went public Monday with the news that it had purchased the popular YouTube.com for $1.65 billion in stock. According to the specifics of the deal, YouTube will still function under that moniker and the goal is for the “user-generated content site” to “strengthen and complement” Google’s video service. “Our companies share similar values; we both always put our users first and are committed to innovating to improve their experience,” said Eric Schmidt, Google CEO....

Showtime is picking up its drama series about the art of comedy, I’m Dying Up Here, for a second season, it was announced today by Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. The fictional series explores L.A.’s famed ’70s stand-up comedy scene. Season one starred Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Treme), Ari Graynor (Bad Teacher), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), Andrew Santino (Mixology), Erik Griffin (Workaholics), RJ Cyler (Power Rangers), Al Madrigal (The Daily Show) and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child) as part of a large ensemble cast....

Inside Out 2 is officially in the works, as the sequel was announced during Friday’s Pixar panel at the D23 expo. The movie comes seven years after the original Inside Out, a smash hit with audiences and the box office. The initial film received an Academy Award win and a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Writing on an Original Screenplay, respectively. Sony Pictures Animation has acquired the Paul Hernandez fantasy project Instant Karma, which will be produced as a live-action/CGI hybrid project. The story centers on a safecracker in New Orleans, who suffers a near-death experience only to be reincarnated as a fly. When he starts to perform good deeds as the fly, he realizes he can move up the food chain and become different animals. He keeps up the good behavior on a quest to regain human form and rejoin the woman he loves....

Last month, it was confirmed that the superhero sequel Iron Man 3 will be shooting in Wilmington, North Carolina’s EUE/Screen Gems facility. Today we have word that Premier Casting is seeking 1,000 extras for Iron Man 3. Take a look at the recent announcement below. Wednesday brought a new development in the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial with another major celebrity offering testimony. Kate Moss, who had a years-long relationship with Depp in the 1990s, appeared via video link to shed some light on certain allegations made earlier in the trial.
