James Gunn is probably one of the most active film directors on social media. Since taking over as co-CEO of DC Studios on November 1, Gunn has been a little quite on the Twitter front…until today. Across several posts, Gunn acknowledged and addressed the frequently raised hashtags from fans of some of the canceled DC shows and the legendary Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, which seem to have swelled in number since Gunn and Peter Safran were given the keys to the DC kingdom....

At a panel at Pacific Media Expo in Los Angeles, James Kyson Lee (Ando on Heroes) revealed that he had auditioned for the role of Yamcha in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z, according to the Anime News Network. The film is based on Akira Toriyama’s manga series and the long-running anime series which aired in the U.S. on Cartoon Network as a part of their Toonami line-up. The series tells the tale of Goku, a powerful warrior and martial arts master whose destiny lies in protecting the earth from dangerous aliens who wish to conquer the universe, and seize the mystic Dragonballs from which the series takes its name....

In recent years, social media has become the place for fans to have their questions answered by their favorite celebrities, and along with James Gunn, fellow moviemaker Jason Blum is always happy to give answers to some burning questions fans ask via Twitter. One recent question put to the Blumhouse producer asked if he would ever “take a run” at a Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday The 13th movie, which considering Blumhouse’s involvement in the recent Halloween reboot and with a finger in many other upcoming horror franchises....

Mega-star Beyonce and first-time BET Awards nominee Jennifer Hudson each walked away with two awards. Beyonce was named Best Female R&B Artist and won for Video of the Year for the female-empowering “Irreplaceable,” while Hudson won Best New Artist and Best Female Actress. Rapper T.I. repeated his win from last year’s awards for Best Hip Hop Artist, and Kirk Franklin also came through with a repeat win for Best Gospel Artist....

Jonathan Kesselman has signed on to direct the remake of Blake Edwards’ The Party that Marco Garibaldi is producing under his Godfather Entertainment banner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Garibaldi said last summer that he was jumping back into the Hollywood game by producing an update of the movie after several earlier attempts at MGM and DreamWorks. The project is a $20 million independently financed film that will aim for cameos by a number of high-profile Hollywood personalities....

While speaking with NJ.com, Grammer declared his desire to return to the world of The X-Men should the opportunity arise, and while he is not privy to any future Marvel projects, he is hoping that the studio would ask him to come back....

Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) has entered into early talks to direct the new Lionsgate movie Hunger Games, according to Deadline New York. We reported a few weeks ago that Gary Ross was one of three finalists to helm the movie, along with David Slade and Sam Mendes. While he has only just started negotiations with Lionsgate for the directing gig, it seems he is the studio’s top choice. Hunger Games is based on the novel series by Suzanne Collins, which is set in a futuristic America where the traditional government has dissolved and the country is split into 12 districts....

BET Networks and Marvel Animation are teaming up to produce an animated series based on the legendary superhero, The Black Panther. Casting is already underway for the series that is slated to premiere in the first quarter of 2009. A special sneak preview will premiere at Comic-Con in July during BET’s panel on Saturday, July 26. The series will be adapted directly from the first six issues of the Marvel Comic written by Reginald Hudlin (issues #1 - #6 “Who Is The Black Panther”)....

After being reported earlier this month that a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong was set to begin production in Australia later this year, it looks like the first indication of what could be coming from the second meeting of the two giants has already been teased by the working title of the movie: Son of Kong. On June 10, 2003, NASA launched Spirit, the first of two Mars Exploration Rovers, into space towards the red planet. Opportunity followed three weeks later. Their mission was expected to last 90 Martian sols, the equivalent of 92.5 Earth days. The Gorillaz animated television show is in development. The Beatles, New Kids on the Block, and MC Hammer. What do all of these musical acts have in common? The answer is that all of them had animated television shows at one point in their career and soon you’ll be able to add the Gorillaz to that list. Band members Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett have teased the idea of a feature length Gorillaz film since the band formed in 1998, but nothing has ever come to fruition for the project....
