The tragic homicide at the merciless hand of police officer Derek Chauvin emphasized the urgent need for reform and demonstrated that even the very people we entrust to keep us safe have regularly been guilty of falling foul of their duty, posing more danger....

An unflinching look at the life and tragic death of Whitney Houston, I Wanna Dance With Somebody undoubtedly had some difficult scenes to film. But Nafessa Williams—who plays the late superstar’s former assistant and creative director Robyn Crawford—says some scenes were harder to shoot than others. Much has been reported about the cinematic fate of Guillermo Del Toro’s The Hobbit. The film was rumored to be pushed back until 2012, but producer Peter Jackson recently stated that the film would be released in December of 2011, with a June 2010 start date for principle photography. A new report in Variety is now stating otherwise. New Line Cinema executive producer Alan Horn told Variety that the film may not hit theaters until a full year after its previously announced release date....

Legendary actor James Caan has died. On the Misery and The Godfather star’s official Twitter account, a message from his family was posted to announce Caan’s passing. A cause of death wasn’t revealed, but it was noted that Caan died on Wednesday. He was 82 years old. “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6,” the statement reads. “The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time....

The long-awaited sci-fi sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, will be the first chapter in the story of original Avatar heroes Jake and Neytiri’s new brood. Now, director James Cameron has explained (via Empire) why the Avatar follow-up will add a family, revealing that he wanted his characters to be bound to others and face the responsibilities that such binding entails. Unlike the leads of the MCU or DC… While Cameron does make the MCU and DC comparison, he quickly states that giving characters too much freedom is a problem across “current fantasy and science-fiction....

When she was just 20 years old, actor Jennifer Lawrence gained significant recognition after she landed the lead role of Katniss Everdeen in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collin’s popular series The Hunger Games. Though it’s been more than a decade since the actor starred in the first franchise film (which was released in 2012), Lawrence recently reflected on her experience headlining the series during a chat with Viola Davis for Variety’s Actors on Actors series....

It does not appear that Amber Heard has the means to pay the full amount that’s owed to Johnny Depp, but with a little luck on her side, she may not have to. Just recently, a jury found Heard guilty on all three counts of alleged defamation, determining that she had fabricated allegations of abuse to tarnish Depp’s reputation. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and another $5 million in punitive damages, though the latter was reduced to $350,000 because of Virginia state law....

In the wake of the much-publicized defamation trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, it’s naturally hard to remember that both of them are successful actors. The statement is especially true for Depp, whose acting career has been heavily affected by the accusations. Director Paul Feig and actress Melissa McCarthy have both expressed interest in returning for a sequel, but it seems Universal may need to convince Kristen Wiig to return first....

NBC has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a record breaking Season 21. The renewal makes the show TV’s longest-running primetime live-action series in history, even beating out Law & Order, which ran for 20 seasons from 1990 to 2010 and Gunsmoke, which ran from 1955 to 1975. Additionally, Mariska Hargitay’s Lieutenant Benson is now the longest-running character in a primetime live-action series. Hargitay has won both a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for her performance on the hit show....

LeBron James is bringing the life and accomplishments of late rapper Nipsey Hussle to the forefront with a new docuseries, according to Deadline. The Hustle & Motivate artist tragically died in 2019 after receiving 10 gunshot wounds in the parking lot of his own store, Marathon Clothing. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers star is collaborating with his Springhill entertainment company and Hussle’s Marathon Films to produce a docuseries following the life of the artist....

2022 is the year of Pinocchio films, with two new adaptations of the iconic tale getting released. The first, set for a September release, is Disney’s latest live-action reimagining of one of their animated classics. The second is… slightly different. Fantasy-horror mastermind Guillermo del Toro is set to direct a stop-motion animated feature that will show a decidedly darker take on the puppet who dreams of being a real boy. For starters, the story is reportedly set in 1930s Fascist Italy, so del Toro is clearly taking full advantage of the story’s Italian roots....

With so many kids in the next generation of Harry Potter characters, there were several avenues a spinoff could have addressed. While Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the only Harry Potter content focusing specifically on the next generation as main characters, it is only valid for Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. Albus and Scorpius lead the play through a time travel scheme gone very wrong. But, what about the rest of the Potter-Weasley clan?...

The Hangover Part III is coming full circle, bringing the franchise back to Las Vegas for the third and final installment. Today, we have word that Heather Graham will reprise her role as Jade from The Hangover. The actress wasn’t seen in last summer’s The Hangover Part II, which took the action to Thailand. This sets up some potential fireworks, since Stu (Ed Helms) got married to Jade during The Hangover, and the sequel was set around Stu’s wedding with his new fiancee Lauren (Jamie Chung)....
