Jennifer Aniston and producing partner Kristin Hahn have formed Echo Films, which kicks off with a first-look deal at Universal Pictures. According to Variety, Aniston and Hahn have already made several project acquisitions, most of which will be developed as star vehicles for Aniston. The studio has just acquired screen rights to Jane Fallon’s British bestseller Getting Rid of Matthew. Fallon, a veteran U.K. TV producer who is married to Ricky Gervais, will adapt her novel about a hard-charging publicist whose lusty affair with a married man is ruined by his decision to leave his wife and two children for her....

Jimmy Smits has signed to star in and executive produce CBS’ untitled Cynthia Cidre drama pilot. The show follows the lives of three generations of the Duques, a powerful Latin American family in South Florida who work in the rum business. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smits will play Alex Vega, an outsider who has been given control of Duque Rum by the Duques’ ailing patriarch. The actor is also producing two shows through his El Sendero Productions; one is a drama from filmmaker Todd Robinson at FX, and the second is a miniseries from Gregory Nava at ABC....

Nearly 10 months after first getting the green light at NBC, the pirate series Crossbones has brought on John Malkovich to play Blackbeard. The 10-episode series will take place in the year 1715 on the Bahamian island New Providence, ruled by the nefarious pirate Edward Teach, a.k.a. Blackbeard. Since this island of thieves and marauders presents a dangerous threat to international commerce, an assassin named Tom Lowe has been dispatched to the island to take out Blackbeard....

Johnny Depp is the latest actor to consider a role in Kathryn Bigelow’s next project Triple Frontier, according to Deadline New York. We reported last night that Tom Hanks could also star in the movie as well, which is set in the South American region on the borders of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil that is home to several organized crime elements. The site reports that there are five main roles in the movie, with two main lead roles....

Jon Hamm has been lending his voice to quite a few animated services, and now it’s his time to have his very own. Grimsburg follows the life of detective Marvin Flute (Hamm) returning to his hometown to solve the town’s and his family’s mysteries. Catlan McClelland created the show, and Matthew Schlissel will be sharing writing duties. Fox’s Bento Box Entertainment will provide the animation. “I am very excited to be involved in the Fox animation universe,” Jon Hamm said....

The creator of the classic video game discusses writing the screenplay for the big screen adaptation, which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Video Game designer Jordan Mechner is best known for creating the popular video game “Prince Of Persia” in the late ’80s. The game was so popular that it went on to spawn several different sequels in various formats over the past twenty years. Kevin Costner is returning to the old west with his latest movie, Horizon. The star launched himself into Hollywood stardom with his role in Dances with Wolves. Gunpowder, a three-part thriller based on the real-life 17th century events that led to Guy Fawkes Day, will debut on HBO this December. She appears in Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders, which looks at the reopened investigation utilizing new technology to solve and close the case. In the trailer for the upcoming docuseries, Kristen reveals that she was a girl scout who “loved going to camp.” But her connection to the grisly murders that occurred at Camp Scott in Locust Grove, Oklahoma is much more personal than that....

According to Variety, IMDb TV has renewed their hit streaming show, Leverage: Redemption for a second season. The show from Electric Entertainment was a bright spot for the free streaming service this summer, rating highly with audiences both on IMDb itself and on Rotten Tomatoes. The first half of season 1 premiered on July 9, with the second batch of eight episodes dropping October 8. Just two months later, IMDb announced they would release a second season of the show....
