Giancarlo Esposito will delve further into the Breaking Bad universe for an upcoming AMC web series, appropriately called The Broken and the Bad. Fans of the franchise will know Esposito plays Los Pollos Hermanos owner and drug lord Gustavo Fring in Breaking Bad and its spin-off series Better Call Saul. Now, he’ll be serving as the host of the new docuseries, which is “inspired by the most memorable characters, situations and themes of the Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad universe and focuses on the real-world stories that mirror the fictional worlds of both shows....

Netflix has renewed GLOW for a second season (ten episodes). Set in 1985 Los Angeles, GLOWfollows Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), a struggling out-of-work actress as she auditions for, trains and eventually makes the first-ever women’s wrestling TV show. Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW is a Cinderella story with bodyslams. The Netflix streaming service hasn’t confirmed when production may begin on these new episodes, or when the new season will debut, although it seems likely that it will arrive in the summer of 2018....

Some positive news for fans of the Happy Death Day franchise, as Blumhouse boss Jason Blum has revealed that things are moving forward on a potential threequel. While taking part in an AQA on Twitter, Blum was asked whether there were any updates regarding Happy Death Day 3, to which the renowned producer replied, “Something is stirring. I will say that.” Though this is far from confirmation that Happy Death Day 3 is finally happening, it certainly sounds like a positive step forward, particularly when compared to past updates from the rest of the cast and crew....

Following the hit series’ fourth-season debut on Sept. 8, HBO has renewed Boardwalk Empire for Season 5, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, who made the following statement. From Terence Winter, Emmy-winning writer of The Sopranos and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire is set in the 1920s during Prohibition, and chronicles the life and times of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, the undisputed leader of Atlantic City....

HBO has released our best look yet at their upcoming Watchmen TV series. Tick tock… the end of the world is being teased in the new footage, which barely resembles the iconic source material from Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore. Damon Lindelof has talked about using the source material to create something new, comparing it to a remix in the music world, and it appears he was true to his world....

Sessue Hayakawa, a popular silent film star, even took to starting his own film studio, incited by Hollywood’s distasteful and erroneous portrayals of Asian-Americans. Despite finding great success and producing 23 films, he left Hollywood in 1922 due to a rise in Anti-Asian racism....

Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman is not just a movie with a strong female lead, rather it is a much-needed movie that tackles the topic of sexual assault and rape. Contrary to the bright pink and luminous poster, this particular movie is quite dark and unpacks some gruesome realities of our society. With Carey Mulligan taking over the lead role of Cassie, Promising Young Woman has been able to gain many awards, including the title of the Best Original Screenplay at the 93rd Academy Awards....

With each passing year, it seems less and less likely that Friday 4, aka Last Friday, will ever see the light of day. After Ice Cube helped kick off the franchise in 1995 as co-writer and lead star alongside Chris Tucker, he’d partner up with Mike Epps for the 2000 sequel Next Friday. Cube and Epps would return as Craig and Day Day in 2002’s Friday After Next, and for the past 20 years, the characters haven’t made another appearance in film....

The Twilight and Harry Potter universes may soon collide, as Emma Watson is reportedly the front-runner for Taylor Lautner’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Incarceron. Also being considered for the role of Lautner’s love interest are Blake Lively, who seems a little too old for Taylor, and Jennifer Lawrence, who will certainly give Watson a run for her money. Lautner is producing Incarceron for Fox 2000, and will star as a young man living in a brutal, futuristic prison society....

Did HD-DVD buy itself a place at the table? In a story from L.A. Weekly, it looks like members of the HD-DVD camp paid Paramount Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Animation somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 to $100 million each for “promotional consideration” of HD-DVD titles. This information comes on the heels of Paramount/DreamWorks Animation announcing their support of HD-DVD. Until recently, 7 out of the 8 “major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) supported Blu-ray, and 5 of them (Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) release their movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format....

Oscar winner James Franco has just lined up his next big role in a feature film. Deadline reports that Franco has just been cast as Fidel Castro in Alina of Cuba, a biopic that explores the love affair between the former Cuban leader and Cuban-born socialite Natalia “Naty” Revuelta, played by Imagen Award winner Mia Maestro. Also starring in the film is Ana Villafañe who was previously cast in the role of Castro’s daughter, Alina Fernandez, with other cast members including Alanna de la Rosa, Maria Cecilia Botero, Harding Junior, Sian Chiong, and Rafael Ernesto Hernandez....

The Soloist director Joe Wright has been set to direct Indian Summer for Working Title and Universal. According to Variety, the project is based on the book of the same name by Alex von Tunzelmann about the last days of Britain’s colonial rule in India and the symbolic end of Blighty’s status as a world superpower. William Nicholson (Gladiator) is penning the screenplay. Working Title co-toppers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce alongside Hilary Bevan Jones (The Boat That Rocked)....

Michael and Shawn Rasmussen wrote, and the legendary John Carpenter directs The Ward, Warner Bros. terrifying new thriller about a malevolent ghost terrorizing a young woman trapped in the basement of a mental institution. The full-length trailer for The Ward has finally arrived on-line, and you can check it out in the clip below along with two new poster images: When an old farmhouse is set ablaze by Kristen (Amber Heard), a distraught young woman, she is taken by police to the North Bend Psychiatric Hospital....

Syfy’s Superman prequel series Krypton has finally found its lead, with little-known British actor Cameron Cuffe signing on to play Superman’s grandfather. The story is set two generations before Superman was even born, showing how Cameron Cuffe’s character, Seg-El, helped bring the House of El back into prominence while saving the planet of Krypton itself. Syfy hasn’t announced when production will begin on the pilot, or when it may air, if it gets picked up to series....

Bruce Willis has signed onto star in Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog for Focus Features. Justin Timberlake, Rebecca Hall, and Catherine Zeta-Jones are also circling roles in the project. Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog is based on the memoir by Beth Raymer, which chronicles her rise from a Las Vegas cocktail waitress to a top sports bookmaker. Bruce Willis will play Dink Heimowitz, an ex-New York bookmaker who mentors Raymer (Rebecca Hall) in the sports gambling business....

American audiences were likely introduced to Korean actor and star Lee Jung-jae through his feature role as Gi-hun, the protagonist in Netflix’s psychological thriller series Squid Game. While he may seem to be an unknown rising star to those who met him as Gi-hun, Koreans and fans of their films know that he’s been an established name for a long time now. Building on Squid Game’s international success, Lee has scored the lead role in the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte....
