John Leguizamo was quite outspoken when Chris Pratt and Charlie Day were cast as the voices of Mario and Luigi respectively in Illumination’s new Super Mario Bros. movie. Now the casting of James Franco as Fidel Castro in the independent movie Alina of Cuba has seen the actor giving a similar opinion on his Instagram account. Alina of Cuba follows the life of Alina Fernandez, the illegitimate daughter of the Cuban revolutionary, who was a strong critic of Castro’s time as leader of Cuba, and eventually left the country to live in Spain in the early 1990s....
The casting of another hot Hollywood project has taken an unexpected turn with the news that Johnny Depp is now being offered the lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman. The Wrap has this news, which wasn’t confirmed by Universal when the site reached out for comment. The story of Hollywood’s most tumultuous relationship will be told in the upcoming documentary Johnny vs Amber. Chronicling the short-lived marriage between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the two-part documentary is in development for the streaming service Discovery+. It is being produced as a “double bill” by Optomen, with each of the two parts told from one of their perspectives. Johnny vs Amber will feature interviews with the lawyers of both Depp and Heard, each presenting their sides of the case, which stems from allegations made by Heard that Johnny Depp had been physically abusive....
Jonah Hill, from Superbad and a plethora of other Judd Apatow projects, is in negotiations to develop a movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street, the popular ’80s TV show starring Johnny Depp. According to Hollywood Insider, it’s unclear whether Hill will actually star in the movie, but Sony confirms that he will work on the screenplay and serve as executive producer. The series, which ran from 1987 to 1991 on Fox, centered on a group of young cops whose youthful appearance allowed them to work undercover in high schools and colleges and seek out troubled kids....
How did you direct your actors to have the ‘Surrogates’ effect? What kind of suggestions would you give? Jonathan Mostow: When I made Terminator 3, I learned something about directing actors to behave like robots. And one of the key things I learned is that if an actor tries to play a robot, he or she risks playing it mechanically in a way that makes the performance uninteresting. So how I approached the issue in that film and in Surrogates was instead to focus on erasing human idiosyncrasies and asymmetries – in posture, facial expressions, gait, etc....
Kevin Smith has done a sterling job of keeping Clerks fans updated on the work being done on the third installment of the franchise, and in his latest update it appears that Clerks 3 is pretty much ready to go and is just waiting to be given a release date. Completing the trilogy that began with Clerks In 1994 and its follow up released in 2006, Smith has once again assembled his usual suspects for the threequel, which he first discussed in 2014....
Saturday Night Live couldn’t be any further in Leslie Jones’ rearview mirror as her new Supermarket Sweep reboot series prepares to launch. From 2014 to 2019, Jones appeared prominently on SNL as a series regular, earning multiple Emmy nominations for her work on the sketch comedy series. She’d wind up departing the NBC show ahead of its 45th season, and in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jones is making it clear that she has no regrets about moving on to other endeavors....

Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment are teaming to develop a feature film based on Gilligan’s Island, the iconic CBS sitcom which ran from 1964 to 1967 and then aired eternally through syndication. According to Variety, Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are onboard to produce for Atlas, with Brad Copeland penning the screenplay. The plans are for a contemporary take on the well-known premise and characters. “The characters are so good,” Roven added....
Following the successful debuts of four critically acclaimed, new original hit series - The Big C, Shameless, Episodes and The Borgias - Showtime Networks and President of Entertainment David Nevins, will be adding two more original series to the premium channel’s line-up. Homeland, a one hour drama starring Emmy Award winner Claire Danes, Golden Globe nominee Damian Lewis and Emmy and Tony Award winner Mandy Patinkin, and House of Lies, a half-hour comedy starring Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, have received 12 episode orders....

Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood is the main focus of the latest teaser for the final trailer as she speaks to her late husband’s headstone. Two well-liked shows have just been given the ax by Netflix. The streaming service has canceled both I Am Not Okay with This and The Society. Both shows had been set to get a second season, with The Society season 2 announced last summer. However, uncertainty brought on by the current situation the world finds itself in has prevented the projects from moving forward. According to multiple reports, I Am Not Okay With This season 2 hadn’t been announced but the show was renewed by Netflix....
IFC has announced its new slate of programming, along with renewals for Comedy Bang! Bang! and The Birthday Boys. The new shows premiering in 2015 are the docu-parody American Documentary, created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Seth Meyers, American Storage starring Rob Huebel, Westside from Joel McHale and The Bank from Teri Weinberg. The sheer scale of James Cameron’s Avatar project may be finally becoming apparent to its creator, who has revealed that he may not direct all the upcoming movies. Although Avatar is clearly Cameron’s baby, having written the story and developed a plan for a total of five movies, Cameron has suggested that its all-consuming nature may mean that he will be handing over directorial duties on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 to someone else....
A familiar face from earlier seasons will be back for season 4 of Westworld. Per Deadline, James Marsden made a surprise appearance at the ATX Festival on Saturday night with some of the creators and cast members of the HBO series. With his appearance, it was confirmed that Marsden will be back in season 4 after sitting out the third season, but he won’t necessarily be the same character. Marsden will be returning to Westworld in a way similar to Evan Rachel Wood, with whom he shared many scenes in the first two seasons....
Production begins next week in the U.K. on Focus Features and BBC Films’ romantic drama Jane Eyre, produced by Ruby Films and based on Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel. Cary Fukunaga, whose debut feature was Focus’ award-winning Sin Nombre, is directing Jane Eyre, to which Focus holds worldwide rights. Focus CEO James Schamus made the announcement today. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) will star in the lead roles of the romantic drama....
