According to The Hollywood Reporter, the highly anticipated boxoffice debut of Universal’s King Kong was unleashed in 3,568 theaters in North America this weekend and captured an estimated $50.1 million, and $66.2 million since its Wednesday release. The big-budget remake, helmed by director Peter Jackson and starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody, went day-and-date internationally, grossing a company-best $80.1 million overseas, bringing the worldwide cume to $146.3 million. Among domestic December debuts, the 187-minute Kong, which carries a PG-13 rating, proved to be the fourth-largest wonder on record....

Two weeks after Kevin Costner stepped away from Django Unchained, director Quentin Tarantino has found his replacement with Kurt Russell signing on. Kurt Russell will portray Ace Woody, who runs the plantation owned by Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). The story follows Django (Jamie Foxx), a recently-freed slave who hires a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to track down his kidnapped wife. It is also being reported today that Laura Cayouette has joined the Django Unchained cast....

Last night’s Game of Thrones episode is now tied for the series low on Rotten Tomatoes. Episode 5 saw a lot happen within its 80 minutes, which has only strengthened the arguments that the past few seasons have been moving too fast and neglecting character development while completely wasting others. Obviously, this is a matter of opinion, and Rotten Tomatoes has given an extra voice for fans to place their discontent with the series....

It’s safe to say that writer-director Adam Green is willing to sacrifice himself and his work for the betterment of the horror genre itself. I know it’s safe to say this because he said it himself, at the Hollwyood premiere of Hatchet II just a few days ago. However, he didn’t really need to say that for it to be true. After a grueling battle with the MPAA over his first Hatchet movie - which thankfully fans can witness in its true glory on DVD/BD - Green decided to make an unprecedented move, and release Hatchet II in theaters unrated, with AMC Theaters distributing the movie exclusively in major markets across the country....

Syd Barrett will fall under the filmmaker’s lens in the new documentary Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd.
