at Super Bowl PartySo where does a celebrity reporter hang out for the Super Bowl? Spago, of course, at a party hosted by Michael Viner and Phoenix Books. Among the many notables watching the big game on 16 strategically placed plasma screens, were Arianna Huffington, Sidney Poitier, Penny Marshall, and Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed. Simmons was not adorned with his Kiss mufti, but instead wore a black t-shirt promoting the Indy Racing League....

It was previously reported that the set of Netflix’s House of Cards was on lockdown due to a mass shooting within close proximity to the set, but according to Netflix, the shooting did not impact the set at all. 5 people were shot and 3 were killed in a Maryland business park about a mile from the set of House of Cards and as of this writing, the shooter is still at large....

CBS also has given a pilot order to the musical, Viva Laughlin! from Bob Lowry and Hugh Jackman. It’s based on the BBC miniseries Viva Blackpool!, and described by The Hollywood Reporter as a rollicking musical about Ripley Holden and his family as they attempt to run a casino in Laughlin, Nevada. Jackman is not only executive producing, he’s also set to guest star in the pilot and in other episodes....

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set a release date for the new home release of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Originally released in 1997, the horror film will be released on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on Sept. 27, 2022. This will mark the 4K debut of the movie and with the new release comes some exclusive bonus features, including a slew of deleted scenes. On that date, participating digital platforms will have the film available in 4K HDR along with 4K HDR debuts of the sequels I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer....

Netflix is starting 2023 with another cancelation. The adult animated series Inside Job is officially canceled on the streaming platform. Show creator and writer Shion Takeuchi confirmed the news on Twitter. The tweet can be read below. This news comes shortly after another writer, Chase Mitchell, posted vague tweets about a show being canceled. The tweets were quickly deleted after they were posted, but not before fans began to do their own research and concluded that the show he was mentioning was Inside Job....

Disney is well-known for its ability to appeal to the masses without issue; that is, until recently. Disney has not had many issues with its ability to be progressive and with the times. However, in recent years, Disney has come under fire for its artistic censorship. Actor James McAvoy is best known for his roles in action movies such as Wanted and this summer’s mutant blockbuster X-Men: First Class. The actor’s latest project is far from an action movie, and it isn’t even live-action. James McAvoy lends his voice to the title character in Aardman Animation’s Arthur Christmas, which is currently playing in theaters across the country. Arthur is Santa’s son, a young man who doesn’t quite fit into the immense high-tech operation at the North Pole, which is run by his older brother, Steve (Hugh Laurie)....

As fans wait for the return of The CW’s long-running hit series Supernatural, which kicks off Season 13 on Thursday, October 12 at 8 PM ET, a beloved former cast member has hinted at a potential return, at some point. According to Variety, Joe Carnahan will co-write and direct a feature about the life of Will Wright, a high school prodigy who at 17 was the catalyst for a $70 million narcotics empire. FilmEngine is financing and will produce the film. Carnahan, who is shooting “Smokin’ Aces” for Universal and Working Title, will team with Joseph F. Alexandre to script the story of Wright, who grew up in Blaine, Wash., and seemed the ideal overachieving teenager: The handsome National Merit Scholar was drafted by the Seattle Mariners....

A new Variety story about the growing movie slate of actor Liam Neeson reveals that he is circling a new project entitled An Ordinary Man. Not much is known about the project, which director Brad Silberling is trying to set up as a low-budget indie. Liam Neeson would play a fugitive war criminal in the movie, who is said to be loosely based on Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic. No production schedule was given for the project, although it was said he would likely take on the role after he shoots the sequel Wrath of the Titans, as well as Last Stand for Ji-woon Kim, where he will play a sheriff in a US/Mexican border town....

Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp., the global leader in digital cinema, and National Geographic Entertainment will co-distribute the documentary Life in a Day to digital theatres across the country, it was announced today by Cinedigm Chairman Chris McGurk and Daniel Battsek, National Geographic Entertainment President. The film is directed by Oscar-winner Kevin Macdonald (TThe Last King of Scotland, One Day in September) and executive produced by Oscar-winner Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner)....

The Good This is a show that, like its main characters, gets better with age. The Bad I think they should include a bunch of scripts from these shows on a DVD-Rom so that screenwriters like myself could print them out and read them. The Golden Girls: The Complete Fifth Season seems to actually get a little bit more serious for this installment of episodes. Sure, this show always dealt with ideas and issues that the older generations face, but I don’t recall the show doing it as much as it seemed to in this season....

NBC is kicking off its edgy new drama Grimm with multi-faceted previews that include an unprecedented industry first allowing Twitter followers of the show handle to preview the entire series premiere beginning today, October 14, two weeks prior to the broadcast premiere on Friday, October 28 (9-10 p.m. ET).　The innovative initiative will also be accompanied by a 10-city, cross-country screening tour featuring a screening of the same Grimm premiere episode – along with selected cast members and executive producers in key cities – starting Tuesday, October 18 in Los Angeles....

Last month, it was revealed that James Gunn was Marvel Studios’ top choice to direct Guardians of the Galaxy, another big-budget ensemble that brings together characters such as Rocket Raccoon and Drax the Destroyer. The filmmaker has since been confirmed to write and direct the upcoming project. Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon knows a thing or two about superhero ensembles, and he is also serving as a creative adviser on this project....

Fantastic Four’s Hamish Linklater has joined Peter Berg’s epic oceanic action adaptation of the board game Battleship, according to The Wrap. Linklater is set to play “a brainy scientist named Cal.” Written by sibling writing team Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, the story unfolds as “a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.” The superior force are aliens from another planet known as The Regents....
