Although 2004’s offbeat comedy Napoleon Dynamite quickly became the definition of a cult classic, there’s a reason that fans are still waiting on a sequel early 20 years later: star Jon Heder won’t move forward without the involvement of writer and director Jared Hess. Sitting down with the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast recently, Heder shared that while there had been talks of a follow-up to Napoleon Dynamite in the years after the film gained popularity, he refused to move forward without the project also involving Hess....

Director Ryan Murphy has acquired a quartet of fine actors for his upcoming AIDS drama The Normal Heart. Joining previously cast Mark Ruffalo are Julia Roberts, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Bomer, and Jim Parsons. Larry Kramer is writing this adaptation of the Tony Award winning drama, with Brad Pitt on as a producer. The story follows the rise of AIDS in New York’s gay community in the early-to-mid 80s. The play first debut Off-Broadway in 1985, and has enjoyed several revivals in Los Angeles and London....

The next classic movie that’s getting a remake is The Wizard of Oz. It was previously revealed that Kenya Barris is writing and directing a new take on the classic story for Warner Bros., and in a new interview with Jimmy Fallon for The Tonight Show, the filmmaker opened up about the project. He explains how it came to be, revealing how he’d originally pursued a new take on The Wiz before running into a dead end....

Kevin Smith isn’t wasting any time with getting a new movie in the works ahead of the premiere of his latest feature film. In September, the filmmaker will release the sequel Clerks III, putting a bow on the trilogy of films that he began in 1994. But the gears are always turning in Smith’s head, and he has apparently been working on something new amid preparing for the Clerks III tour this fall....

The original Law & Order is returning to television. Nearly twelve years after the iconic crime drama was given the boot at NBC, the network has decided to resurrect Law & Order - the one without a subtitle. A new season has been greenlit, which will serve as the 21st season overall for the show, but the cast has yet to be finalized at this time. Reportedly, Dick Wolf and writer-showrunner Rick Eid will develop the returning Law & Order....

French producer/distributor Gaumont has picked up rights to mystery novelist Harlan Coben’s France-set Long Lost, and is planning an English adaptation. According to Variety, the novel is centered on a sports agent who stumbles on a terrorist plot while racing to find the long-lost daughter of an ex-girlfriend. Gaumont will develop and produce the adaptation with Nick Wechsler, producer of The Road and We Own the Night. At the Berlin Film Festival, Gaumont also announced production of English-lingo comedy Late Bloomers, directed by Julie Gavras, daughter of Costa Gavras....

Many people of a certain age grew up watching Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons. Even those who aren’t aware of the name are surely aware of shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and/or Samurai Jack. Now, Tartakovsky is back with a brand new, five-episode limited series on Adult Swim in the form of Primal, a gripping and violent prehistoric tale. I was lucky enough to catch the first four episodes at this year’s Fantastic Fest and, at least for the moment, I’m convinced it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen....
