It seems that Tom Hanks is taking another Broadway musical and bringing it to the silver screen… but this time, the musical hasn’t even opened yet. Deadline New York is reporting that Tom Hanks and his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman are in discussions to turn the upcoming musical American Idiot into a film. The Broadway musical, which will open on April 20, revolves around the Green Day album of the same name and uses songs from the album to tell the story of three small-town friends who all take different paths: one enlists in a branch of the armed forces, another moves to the city and gets hooked on drugs and the other stays at home and ends up getting his girlfriend pregnant....

Hordes of flesh-eating, blood-drooling and groaning “walkers” will infest Universal Studios’ world-famous backlot when “Terror Tram: Invaded by The Walking Dead” comes to life at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Hollywood. AMC’s The Walking Dead has a significant presence at this year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” in addition to the “Terror Tram.” An immersive new maze, “The Walking Dead: Dead Inside,” based on the compelling series" will also debut at the event....

Hollywood’s Master Storytellers™, the long-running film series that showcases the most celebrated and successful filmmakers in the motion picture industry, moves to Mann Theatres’ world famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatres complex at Hollywood & Highland on February 16, with a special presentation of Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film, War of the Worlds, it was announced by Peter Dobson, CEO of Mann Theatres, and Gordon Meyer, the creator, host and one of the executive producers of the influential series....

A sneak peek photo of the three returning cast members from the set had also been released, and now, the trio attempts to prove that they still got it in a new video teaser that’s floating around online....

IFC has renewed its hit original comedy series Portlandia for Season 4 and Season 5. Each season will feature 10 half-hour episodes, to premiere in early 2014 and early 2015, respectively. The Emmy® nominated, Peabody and WGA Award-winning series is created and written by Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney), stars of the show, and Jonathan Krisel, the show’s director. Portlandia is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video....

James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in talks to play the title roles of Gnomeo and Juliet, a CGI-animated Shakespeare adaptation from Miramax and Elton John’s Rocket Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will feature several John classics but not Kate Winslet, who was first attached to voice Juliet two years ago and fell out because of scheduling conflicts. Tim Rice also was approached to write original songs with his “Lion King” partner John at the time, but the soundtrack now will be filled with the performer’s well-known hits and possibly a few new tracks....

Jason Momoa began playing Aquaman in 2016, appearing in a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The actor has enjoyed his king of the sea character and tells The Hollywood Reporter he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Momoa is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which just received a delay until December 2023. During the red carpet premiere of his AppleTV+ series, See, THR discussed the upcoming sequel with the actor, and Momoa revealed just how much the film means to him....

Just before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa was driving along Old Topanga Road in Calabasas, California in his 1970 Oldsmobile when 21-year-old motorcyclist Vitaliy Avagimyan crossed the center line and smashed head-on into his muscle car. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the motorcyclist came in contact with Momoa as he drove around a curve, crossed over into the actor’s lane during this bend, hit the left front end of the Oldsmobile....

The Goldbergs kicked off its tenth season on Wednesday with one major change, as series star Jeff Garlin is no longer a part of the show. Following allegations of inappropriate and unprofessional behavior behind the scenes, it had been announced that Garlin was parting ways with The Goldbergs. It was later revealed that his character would be killed off in season 10, so fans knew going in that Garlin would be absent in the new episodes....

Universal Pictures has given the green light for Man of Tai Chi, a martial arts tale which will mark Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut. Village Roadshow Asia, China Film Group, and Wanda Media are teaming up with Universal for the project. Tiger Chen will star in Man of Tai Chi as a young martial artist, whose exceptional fighting skills present not only unique opportunities, but difficult decisions he must make. Keanu Reeves will also star in Man of Tai Chi, although no character details were released....

It has been three years since word of a third installment of the Kick-Ass franchise began to circulate, and since then we have not seen much on how that development is going, but creator Mark Millar has now given a much needed update on the potential arrival of Kick-Ass 3. The original 2010 movie was based on Millar’s comic book, which featured illustrations by John Romita Jr. and centered on the life of teenage wannabe superhero Dave Lizewski, whose actions end up going viral on the internet leading him to be the instigator of other people becoming their own superheroes as he gets involved with Mindy “Hit Girl” McCready and Big Daddy, a couple of vigilantes who are trying to take down a family of criminals....

We have been graced with many autobiographical movies from major filmmakers throughout the course of cinema history. Just last year, for instance, we saw Empire of Light from Sam Mendes and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. While the former fizzled with critics and audiences, the latter has become a force to be reckoned with this awards season. Whether good or bad, there’s nonetheless something immediately interesting whenever a director decides to turn the camera towards themselves....

After more than a decade, Law Abiding Citizen is getting a sequel. Directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Kurt Wimmer, the action thriller was released in theaters in 2009. Starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx, the film follows a man who takes the law into his own hands when the criminal justice system fails to properly punish his family’s killer. The film was a hit at the box office, even if reviews weren’t overly kind....

American Horror Story: Asylum only has two episodes of of spine-tingling terror left this season, with “Continuum” airing Wednesday, January 16 and the season finale “Madness Ends” on Wednesday, January 23, only on FX. Lily Rabe, who portrays Sister Mary Euince McKee, recently held a conference call to discuss her time on the show. Be warned, if you are not caught up with American Horror Story: Asylum, there will be spoilers contained within....

Sad news has come in as it’s been reported that veteran actor Gavin MacLeod has passed away. MacLeod, whose credits include memorable roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Love Boat, reportedly died overnight at his home in Palm Desert, California. He was 90 years old. According to Gavin’s nephew, Mark See, the actor had been in and out of the hospital over the past few months struggling with various illnesses....

Jamie Lee Curtis appeared in a video today to announce that Halloween Ends will follow the same release strategy as Halloween Kills with the movie being released on Peacock on the same day it arrives in theaters. After playing Laurie Strode for four decades, Curtis will play the character for one last time in the movie, which will deliver an end to the Michael Myers vs Strode story one again under the direction of David Gordon Green....
