In its 52nd year, the Rotterdam Festival witnessed Cyrielle Raingou’s Le Spectre de Boko Haram, a documentary showing a group of children in The North Region of Cameroon living under the threat posed by the armed extremist group Boko Haram. The 2023 Tiger Award, the main prize of the festival, was awarded to Raingou’s masterpiece at a gala ceremony on Friday night in Rotterdam. The award carries a sum of $43,000 in prize money....

When the design of Gorr the God Butcher was revealed for Thor: Love and Thunder, many fans were disappointed at stripped-back appearance of the character compared to his more monstrous comic book counterpart. However, despite that, the performance of Christian Bale in the movie has been constantly cited as one of the best things about the film. It seems though there was a point when a more creature-like design for Gorr was considered, which can now be seen thanks to early concept images shared by artist Ken Barthelmey....

Director Guy Ritchie’s upcoming spy flick Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre will pair action movie icon Jason Statham with cynically deadpan comedy legend Aubrey Plaza, with the filmmaker teasing the potential of this unorthodox duo. Statham and Plaza will lead the Guy Ritchie movie, no doubt both demonstrating their respective talents for throwing punches and landing quips. “It felt fresh and she felt capable,” Ritchie says of casting Aubrey Plaza, who is best known for her role in the sitcom Parks and Recreation and has yet to lend her talents to the action movie genre....

Most cinephiles will agree that Back to the Future is among the greatest movies of all time. It’s a perfect storm that needed every aspect to be just as it was for the classic movie to come out so well, and a big part of that relied on its stellar casting. It’s well known at this point that Eric Stoltz was replaced during production by Michael J. Fox as he just didn’t feel right as Marty McFly, but it doesn’t seem to be quite as known that Ghostbusters star Harold Ramis could have been a part of that original cast as well....

We reported last week that 80s icons Debbie Gibson and Tiffany were set to star in the new SyFy original film Mega Python vs. Gatoroid and now we have details how, if you live in the greater Los Angeles area, you can take part in the film as well. The TV film will be shooting tonight at the Los Angeles County Arboretum tonight, July 1, and fans can show up tonight at 6 PM for a chance to be an extra in the film....

Hot on the heels of the Friends reunion announcement, Warner Bros. Television and Prop Store are joining forces for Giving Tuesday as part of the series’ 25th anniversary celebration. For the first time ever, Friends fans and collectors can bid on props, costumes, studio-edition authorized reproductions, set decoration and production material from the beloved series. Proceeds from the auction will benefit The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people....

Iron Man was the first big film of the summer and it seems only fitting that it be the first to reach a box-office milestone this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Iron Man will be the first movie of 2008 to cross the $300 million plateau at the domestic box office. Current numbers for the film, as of Tuesday, have the Marvel Studios film sitting at $299.3 million. There hasn’t been a daily gross lower than $688,000 for the film in its seven-week run so far, so the milestone will almost certainly be acheived on Thursday....

Could Disney and Lucasfilm really release a secret Star Wars series next year? According to a new rumor, the show is already in production. Disney+ is off to a great start, thanks to the success of The Mandalorian. Star Wars fans were happy to see a show that brings back some of the best elements of the franchise’s past, while making something brand-new that fits in well with everything else. Now, it appears there is another show in development and it’s reportedly coming soon....

It seems some of our favorite cinematic poker players might ante up for a sequel. According to PokerListings.com, David Levien, who along with Brian Koppleman wrote the original Rounders film, said a sequel is in the early writing stages. “We’ve been concentrating on Rounders 2 lately; Ideas are percolating,” Levien said. “It’s great to know that all of the original players want to come back and do another one.” Of those original players, Matt Damon told the site he would be interesting in exploring a sequel....

With the phenomenal success of James Cameron’s Avatar, many are wondering what new project the director will take on next and it seems that project will be a musical endeavor. Vibe is reporting that Cameron will be directing a 3D concert film for The Black Eyed Peas. Frontman Will i Am broke the news to the site and here is an excerpt from the article. The site also reported that, while the film doesn’t currently have a title as of yet, the film will be released sometime next year....

Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron will produce a 3-D adventure thriller for Rogue Pictures. Rogue co-presidents Andrew Karpen and Andrew Rona made the announcement today. Rogue has worldwide distribution rights to the as-yet-untitled feature and will make the movie with Mr. Cameron’s Earthship Productions, the production company that the filmmaker founded to advance his extensive underwater expeditions and documentary work of the past decade. Emmy Award nominee Gary Johnstone will direct, from a script by John Garvin....
