Actor Joaquin Phoenix has joined the cast of the Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Project, which was formerly known as The Master. The Weinstein Company recently won a bidding war for the worldwide distribution rights to the project. We first reported that Joaquin Phoenix may join the project last month, and now his deal has been finalized. Philip Seymour Hoffman is also locked in to star as a religious figure known only as The Master, who creates a belief system after returning from the horrors of World War II....

Joey King stars in David Leitch’s action-packed Bullet Train. The film, based on Kotaro Isaka’s book of the same name, follows the story of Ladybug (played by Brad Pitt), an aging assassin whose last mission takes him on the world’s fastest training traveling from Tokyo to Morioka. Once aboard, Ladybug realizes he’s not the only hired killer on the train and that all the killer’s missions are connected. King plays Prince, one of the assassins aboard the train, and discussed her preparation for the role with Variety....

The life and legacy of late actor John Candy will be explored in a new documentary that’s now in the works. Coming from Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks, the doc will be produced under Reynolds’ Maximum Effort banner. The legal team of Johnny Depp isn’t buying what Amber Heard’s lawyers have been saying since the verdict was read at their defamation trial. Ultimately, a jury sided heavily with Depp by awarding him damages on all three counts of alleged defamation. The actor’s name was also cleared as a domestic abuser with the jury finding Heard’s allegations to be “false and defamatory.” Depp didn’t win unscathed, as he was found liable for one of three counts of defamation with Heard’s counterclaim, but the trial can overall be seen as a win for Depp....

Hairspray, a remake of John Water’s 1988 cult classic of the same name, has finally hit the $100 million mark. According to Variety, it is only the third recent musical to make that much at the box office. Chicago and Dreamgirls have also hit that financial landmark. The film, directed by Adam Shankman, is the 10th musical in film history to reach this touchstone. The list of financially capable movies includes The Sound of Music and Grease, as well as such animated musicals as The Lion King and Aladdin....

A Star Wars prop has just sold at auction for more than a million dollars after a competitive bidding war. Recently, an auction was recently held by the Rock Island Auction Company for collector firearms. In the past, they’ve auctioned off other screen-used pistols from various movies, including John Wayne’s gun from True Grit. However, the new auction for the DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol used by Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope has reportedly sold for a cool $1,057,500....
