After reporting earlier today that Natalie Portman would not star in Gravity, Variety is now telling us that Sandra Bullock is in heavy talks for the lead role. The studio certainly seems to be moving fast on the Alfonso Cuarón project, which he will direct from a script he co-wrote with his son, Jonás Cuarón. It wasn’t said when Warner Bros. and Sandra Bullock entered into discussions for the movie, and the site reports that Natalie Portman left the project only because of scheduling conflicts....

TNT has written a prescription for a third season of the powerful medical drama Hawthorne, starring and executive-produced by Jada Pinkett Smith (Collateral, The Matrix trilogy). TNT has ordered 10 new episodes of the hit series, which is slated to return in 2011. Created by Emmy winner John Masius (St. Elsewhere, Providence, Dead Like Me), Hawthorne premiered in summer 2009 and ranked as one of ad-supported cable’s Top 5 new series of the year....

HBO is getting in business with legendary filmmaker Martin Scorcese on a brand new series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has greenlit the pilot Boardwalk Empire to series. The network has placed an order for 11 additional episodes, bringing the first season to 12 episodes, including the pilot. Martin Scorcese directed the pilot, which was written by Terrence Winter. Scorcese will also executive produce the series with Winter, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Tim Van Patten....

Hocus Pocus 2 is bringing back the Sanderson sisters this Halloween, but talk of a third movie has already begun. Original franchise star Bette Midler is reprising her role as Winifred, and will be joined by her Hocus Pocus co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who return for the sequel as Winifred’s magical sisters, Sarah and Mary respectively. When it comes to possibly coming back to Salem for another round of spooky magic, Midler seems to be more than willing to give it a go if the chance came around....

There is an expectation that all Marvel movies and TV shows should have some big action set pieces and a barnstorming finale. However, as She-Hulk’s meta ending pointed out, not everything needs to be big and elaborate. That seems to be true of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, as James Gunn revealed that the special originally had a villain who ended up fighting Kevin Bacon, but in the end, the writer/director changed his mind....

Knight Rider has been ordered for the upcoming 2008-09 fall season on NBC. According to Variety, the two-hour pilot that aired in February arrived with strong ratings, guarantying the updated show a place on NBC’s upcoming slate of fall programs. The show will most likely air on Friday nights starting in September. More of NBC’s schedule will be announced later this week.
