Insecure is an HBO dramedy that is partially based on Issa Rae’s YouTube series Awkward Black Girl. The series follows a group of Black women who struggle with a number of awkward experiences as move through life, careers, new boyfriends, and, more notably, ex-boyfriends. The cast features creator Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Amanda Seales, and Natasha Rothwell. Insecure has been subject to critical acclaim, receiving nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards....

Intrepid Pictures has preemptively acquired the spec script Mercy by screenwriters Carolyn Townsend and Eddie Hartman, according to Variety. The story follows a college student who sets out to debunk the urban legend of the Mercy Killer – a killer who makes his victims’ deaths look like suicides – only to discover that he is all too real and has chosen her as his next victim. Founded in 2005, Intrepid is a feature film production and co-financing company with a nonexclusive, first-look deal with Universal Pictures and Rogue Pictures....

For all that the catch phrase of the original film was “There can be only one,” that doesn’t stop plans for Highlander from continuing, and the latest rumor has it that Kevin McKidd may be set to take over the role of Connor MacLeod. The folks at JoBlo revealed that the actor mentioned in a radio interview that he’d been approached about staring in the film. McKidd, most recently seen in the short-lived NBC series Journeyman, is at least actually Scottish, unlike Christopher Lambert who originated the role....

Jaime King (Sin City) has joined the ranks of Hollywood beauties to be attached to Will Eisner’s The Spirit. Her character has yet to be revealed, but IESB.net has confirmed with her publicist and manager that King has been cast in the film. Variety has also confirmed that Paz Vega will be appearing in the project. Will Eisner’s The Spirit is adapted from the classic graphic novels created by Will Eisner, and focuses on Denny Colt....

Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton has lined up her next television venture, as the actress is attached to produce a new project based on the exposure of Jeffrey Epstein as a sexual deviant and serial molester by the Miami Herald. The project comes from Storied Media Group, with company founder and CEO Todd Hoffman producing alongside Heaton. Mississippi Burning writer Chris Gerolmo is also on board to adapt the original articles the series is based on....

DCU stars John Cena (Peacemaker) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) are set to team up for their next big project. Described by Variety as a “rowdy new action comedy,” the film is dubbed Killer Vacation. Actor Johnny Depp continues to make a comeback following the conclusion of his much-publicized defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, with the Pirates of the Caribbean star set to direct a biopic about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. As per a report by THR, Depp will also co-produce the project alongside acting legend Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. “The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I’m incredibly honored, and truly humbled, to bring to the screen,” Depp said....

Leonardo DiCaprio is in early talks to star in the drama/thriller, Body of Lies for Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is the adaptation of the new David Ignatius novel; Ridley Scott will direct and produce the project, which reunites DiCaprio with screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed). According to Variety, DiCaprio’s deal has to be negotiated, but he already has worked the picture into his busy schedule. He’ll make it this fall after first reteaming with Kate Winslet on Revolutionary Road, the Sam Mendes-directed DreamWorks drama that shoots in April....

Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Mckenna Grace cannot wait to return to the supernatural world of the Ghostbusters in an upcoming sequel. Sales numbers indicate that the difference between Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and close-second-finisher Stargate: Continuum was fewer than 200 units....
