Hot on the dancing heels of the news that Dirty Dancing 2 will be heading into production with original star Jennifer Grey reprising her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman, comes the revelation that the actress would love to see former One Direction singer and Dunkirk star Harry Styles join her in the movie. A direct sequel to the 1987 movie that starred Grey alongside Patrick Swayze, the film has been in the works for a number of years but only now seems to be moving forward to being another romantic musical movie to cinemas....

The world received its first confirmation yesterday that the sequel to 2019’s Joker is moving forward. No screenplay draft for the sequel had been turned into the studio when we last heard. That seems to no longer be the case, as director Todd Phillips posted on Instagram the cover of the script, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, written by Phillips and his collaborator from the first movie Scott Silver. The post also contained a picture of star Joaquin Phoenix reading the screenplay....

Joss Whedon gives the lowdown on his brand new Fox series. Joss Whedon is simply a TV legend. He’s created such iconic shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that series’ spin-off, Angel and the short-lived by cult-classic series Firefly, which he also shepherded into the feature film Serenity. His latest creation is the brand new Fox series Dollhouse, which premieres on Friday, February 13 at 9 PM ET on Fox. Whedon recently held a conference call to discuss his new series, and here’s what he had to say....

Kevin Smith has revealed that his secret project, one that he says will involve the most “massive IP” he’s ever worked with, is actually going to be an Untitled Kevin Smith TV Series, not a movie. There had been speculation running rampant ever since Smith revealed he completed writing a project that involved some sort of pre-existing franchise that he may be tackling something in the Star Wars or Marvel movie universe....

NBCUniversal, one of the world’s premier media and entertainment companies, has partnered with digital publisher Lion Forge Comics to develop licensed comic books based on popular TV shows from the 1980s and 90s. Under the agreement licensed through the NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group, Lion Forge will write, develop and publish digital comics based on the following shows: Airwolf Knight Rider Miami Vice Punky Brewster Saved by the Bell Here’s what Chris Lucero, NBCUniversal Television’s director of Global Consumer Products Licensing, had to say in a statement....

The sassy Elle Woods is back again for Legally Blonde 3, and fans are over the moon. Reese Witherspoon soon became a popular household name after the first installment of the movie in 2001. Her drive to break stereotypes while maintaining her own unique personality soon became a favorite trope among audiences. Elle’s steadfast motivation and anything-is-possible attitude became defining factors of the Legally Blonde franchise. The second movie, which saw Elle move to Washington to fight for animal rights and Bruiser’s Law to ban the testing of make-up on animals, grossed more than USD 124 million worldwide....

Kelly Carlin brought a bit of her father’s spirit to the Creative Arts Ceremony. She was the executive producer of the film George Carlin’s American Dream, which won the Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special. After accepting the award, Carlin went to the microphone for the following. Carlin shares the award with director and executive producers Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfilio. She also shares them with producer Wayne Federman, supervising producer Amanda Glaze, executive producer Teddy Leifer, and co-executive producer Joseph Beshenkovsky....

The Good It was interesting getting to see all these women share the screen. The Bad Why did the MovieWeb powers that be have me review this? Taking what is essentially the plot of an indy film and schmaltzing it up a great deal, Georgia Rule is one of those movies that doesn’t seem to really make sense. The plot is coherent, it just doesn’t seem like this tale of a mother (Felicity Huffman) who can’t control her daughter (Lindsay Lohan), so she takes her home to live with her mother (Jane Fonda) has all the trappings of a gritty indy without the indy trappings....

This next installment in the Love’s Unfolding Dream series centers on Missy’s adopted daughter Belinda Tyler (Scout Taylor-Compton) as she follows her dream. This young woman wants to be a doctor, but these times don’t look kindly on women with careers, especially one in the medical field. But Belinda is a strong-minded woman and deeply wants a career as a doctor. She manages to prove her abilities while assisting the local doctor and caring for an old woman who recently experienced a stroke....

Ana Willis (Queen Latifah) is a woman who made a lot of bad choices before she turned her life around. Heavily into crack with her then boyfriend (and later husband) Slick (Wendell Pierce), Ana had a daughter that went to live with her mother (Anna Deavere Smith). Ana and Slick, due to their drug abusing ways, are also HIV positive. Ana currently has another daughter with Slick and she’s completely turned her life around....

The latest footage from She-Hulk: Attorney at Law may have revealed the presence of another Marvel favorite in the MCU: Johnny Blaze AKA Ghost Rider. A newly released featurette for the upcoming Disney+ series reveals how the title character will gain her powers, with fans spotting the major Ghost Rider cameo amongst the onslaught of new footage. Now, while there has been a lot of discussion over whether the poster says “Johnny” or “Donny,” it absolutely, definitely…probably says Blaze....

First, co-star Ke Huy Quan took home the Best Supporting Actor trophy at Tuesday night’s 80th Golden Globe Awards cermeony. Now, it’s Michelle Yeoh’s turn to celebrate. A24’s hit film Everything Everywhere All At Once is cleaning up a bit at the ceremony with multiple wins. Yeoh’s leading turn in the Daniels’ latest masterpiece is the role of a lifetime — or perhaps several lifetimes, given the film’s multiverse premise — as a mom in distress....

The Guardians of the Galaxy are a rag-tag group of misfits who formed together to save the galaxy, albeit very reluctantly for some members of the group. One of those such reluctant misfits is none other than Rocket, a genetically altered raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper. The Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) films have quickly become a beloved portion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The films come from the creative mind of director James Gunn....

James Gunn first cut his teeth working at Troma before penning both Scooby Doo live-action movies and the Dawn Of The Dead remake. He then directed the cult hit Slither and the indie vigilante comedy Super. Now, Marvel Studios is turning to the director for their next big franchise in the making, Guardians of the Galaxy. So, it seems, Rocket Raccoon may be in capable hands after all. Maybe. James Gunn can sometimes be an acquired taste....

In a sense, culture has heckled one era of stand-up comedy straight off the stage. The angry man yelling at his audience, laughing at his own racist or chauvinist jokes, has stopped being applauded. Offensive, bitter humor has largely been heckled away by a media landscape that no longer tolerates insensitivity and low-blows to marginalized or disenfranchised groups of people. Andrew Dice Clay (or even Lenny Bruce) could probably never have a successful career as a comic today....

In the 2000s, sitcoms had a renaissance. Not only was the genre the dominant force on television, but there was a great deal of innovation happening within the art form with shows like The Office, Scrubs, and How I Met Your Mother. One classic sitcom from that era was Malcolm in the Middle, which ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006. There are a lot of sitcoms featuring child characters in the lead, but Malcolm in the Middle feels different from all of them....
