M3GAN is a new horror thriller from Universal and Blumhouse, which is based on a story by Aquaman director James Wan, and according to new reports the movie will be going up against Sony’s Spider-Man Universe-based Kraven the Hunter on January 13th 2022, which could prove to be unlucky for some. The movie has also enlisted Atomic Monster and Divide/Conquer as part of its team and seems to be ready to fight for attention, as the date is also currently reserved for an unannounced Warner Bros....

Janelle Monáe will star as jazz icon Josephine Baker in the upcoming drama series De la Resistance, Deadline reports. The new series comes from A24, the entertainment company behind Euphoria, and Monae’s own TV and film production company, Wondaland. While the series has not found a home, there is interest from multiple streaming services. The series will show the different aspects of Baker’s dynamic persona, including her life as a performer, civil rights activist, and her time as a French Resistance spy for the Allies during WWII....

John Travolta and Queen Latifah have signed on to star in New Line Cinema’s upcoming feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Hairspray, it was announced today by Toby Emmerich, New Line’s President of Production. Travolta will play Edna Turnblad and Queen Latifah will play Motormouth Maybelle in the film, which is being directed by Adam Shankman (The Pacifier, Bringing Down the House) and produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, for their Zadan/Meron Productions, who previously executive produced the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning Best Picture Chicago....

Comedy Central has ordered an initial run of 10 episodes of a new, untitled sitcom starring Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory) from Gary Sanchez Productions and Debmar-Mercury, it was announced today by Gary Sanchez Productions, Comedy Central and Debmar-Mercury. Produced by Gary Sanchez Productions, the production company led by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy, distributed by Debmar-Mercury, the untitled, multi-camera sitcom for Comedy Central will star Jon Heder as an out of work computer IT specialist who leaves the big city and returns to his small home town, where he moves back in with his parents and younger brother....

Dawson’s Creek’s Pacey Witter, otherwise known as Joshua Jackson, has come aboard the ABC series Grey’s Anatomy. According to Variety, he will be appearing in several upcoming episodes of the medical drama. Jackson will be playing a doctor in this season’s eleventh episode. His story arc will run through a good portion of this year’s storyline. It will mark Jackson’s first attempt at episodic television since Dawson’s Creek ended its run in 2003....

The young actors discuss their roles in the highly-praised independent film. We attended the Los Angeles movie-junket for Jason Reitman’s new independent drama-comedy, Juno. The film has received much praise from many of the better-known movie reviewers. Juno stars Ellen Page as the title character, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera). With the help of her best friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby), Juno finds her unborn child a “perfect” set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), longing to adopt....

Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is one of the most respected actresses of our time, but that didn’t spare her from hurtful comments during her rise to stardom. What was it like playing the unattractive unpopular girl, at least the teenage version of your character? Kristen Bell: It was awesome because pretty girls aren’t funny. They’re not, it’s just a fact. And they are usually not very interesting. Sorry, pretty girls. What made the role particularly interesting? Kristen Bell: Playing Marni was fun for me because the part involved wearing prosthetics, which I like. I had to look unattractive with acne, which I enjoyed as a character actress....

There’s a running joke on Twitter currently that Glen Powell’s parents have seen Top Gun: Maverick in theaters a total of fourteen times, elated that their son is playing on the big screen right now. Powell tweeted that this movie is making his parents go broke, but it’s all in good fun. Powell plays Lieutenant Jake Serensin; his call sign “Hangman”, a cocky pilot who finds himself in a rivalry with another pilot played by Miles Teller; Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw....

The only thing more frightening than running into Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series of films might be taking over the role - but that’s just what Derek Mears has done for the newest Friday the 13th. Mears was recently visited by MTV.com who discuss what Mears is like on set, and even get a chance to examine the famous hockey mask. Mears is described as appearing at first as a large man, but not mammoth - at least until one gets close....

Gore Verbinski is gearing up to release his animated Western Rango early next month, and while doing press for the Johnny Depp adventure, the director was pressed about who he envisions as a good Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp’s Tonto. Timothy Olyphant, who gives voice to The Spirit of the West in Rango, seems like a logical go-to first choice for Gore Verbinski. A source close to the production recently revealed that the director has acknowledged that the actor, who plays a Deputy U....

According to Deadline New York, Guillermo del Toro’s next film will be At the Mountains of Madness. This is an adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft tale. The film will be shot in 3D for Universal Pictures and James Cameron will come aboard as a producer. James Cameron is being choosy about what 3D projects he aligns himself with, but he made an exception due to his respect for del Toro. Also, it is Cameron’s involvement that helped convince Universal to go with this project....
