Roland Emmerich, the director behind disaster epics The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, and Godzilla has been in the news lately for his controversial views on franchise films. However, he too tried to create a franchise (albeit unsuccessfully) around a beloved film – 1996’s Independence Day. Emmerich co-wrote and directed the first and only sequel of his career, 2016’s Independence Day: Resurgence. But the film underperformed at the box office and was universally panned by both critics and audiences....

It seems that a struggling NBC drama could be done for after four seasons. Vulture is reporting that Heroes will likely be canceled by NBC, despite the talk of a fifth and final season for the series. It was said that NBC was looking to wrap up the series with a final 13-episode season to give it proper closure, but with its growing slate of new series pickups even before their upfront presentation, it was believed the show will be no more, due to NBC’s confidence in their new pickups....

During an appearance on Charlamagne Tha God’s The Breakfast Club, Jasmine Guy (Whitley Gilbert) and Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne Wayne) from the show A Different World, which aired from 1987 to 1993, reflected on the first season. Guy shared that she tried to quit despite signing a six-year contract. However, producers reportedly weren’t having it. The former co-stars also shared never told before stories about the inner workings, including claims that producers on the show treated its original lead actress, Lisa Bonet (Denise Huxtable), horribly....

Clearly, Jason Momoa has water on the brain, figuratively speaking of course. Not only does he play King of the Seas as Aquaman, but he is also celebrating the launch of his Mananalu water bottles. The 43-year-old recently shared a video to his social media pages, including Instagram and TikTok, showing himself posing as a flight attendant handing out cans to unsuspecting passengers on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii....

Nominations for the 84th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and Academy member and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence. Sherak and Lawrence will unveil the nominations in 10 of the 24 categories at a 5:30 a.m. PT news conference at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world will be gathered....

Jeopardy! is reportedly looking for someone to take over for long time host Alex Trebek. The iconic host has been a part of the show for over 30 years now and has three more years left on his contract. However, the 78-year old recently announced he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which has apparently sped up the process to find a replacement. Alex Trebek is still hosting the show and plans to do so throughout his battle in order to finish out his contract....

Nickelodeon announced today that WWE Superstar John Cena is returning to host the 2018 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for the second time, while also breaking new ground at the network with two firsts: Cena will get into character by lending his voice to an original villain named Baron Draxum in the brand-new 2D animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, premiering late 2018; and is executive producing the brand-new competition series, Keep It Spotless, where teams of kids go head-to-head in a battle to stay clean....

Earlier this year, fans and friends of Bob Saget were devastated to lose the beloved Full House star when he passed away suddenly at the age of 65. It has been especially hard on those who knew Saget best, such as one of his best friends, John Stamos. With a friendship dating back decades, Stamos and Saget had previously co-starred on Full House before reprising their roles for the sequel series Fuller House....

Olivia Colman’s acting and newcomer, Charlie Reid, in the film Joyride have been commended, but critics have picked at the storyline, which they believe has some flaws. The storyline and the direction are the focus of the criticism as to why the movie isn’t landing for some reviewers. The film follows Colman’s character, Joy, as she tries to give her baby up for adoption and escape the country. Her plan is halted when she falls asleep, and her taxi is stolen by 12-year-old Mully (Reid)....

Jurassic World: Dominion has been a long time coming thanks to the Covid pandemic, and with first reviews giving a high approval rating but mixed reviews, it is hard to tell whether the wait has been worth it. Now opening weekend predictions have suggested the film will have the lowest box office haul when it opens this weekend, but that doesn’t mean the dinosaur-filled franchise finale will be anywhere near a flop....

M. Night Shyamalan’s latest, “Lady in the Water”, is his most complex and elaborate film. It’s also his least entertaining. It does have some interesting moments, but generally fails because the story is so uninspiring. This is a deathblow for a film that is branded as a bedtime story, a dark fantasy for all ages. It simply does not achieve the greatness that it thinks it deserves. Shyamalan is often criticized for his perceived egomania, but he might warrant that criticism here....

House of The Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will compete for the viewership of fantasy enthusiasts this summer. However, George R.R. Martin hopes House of the Dragon, an adaptation of his 2018 novel Fire & Blood, will slightly outperform its competition. In a recent interview with The Independent, Martin spoke on the rivalry created by the two shows releasing so close together. “I hope both shows succeed....

Few recent television shows seem more tethered to their time than Lena Dunham’s Girls. The quintessential millennial cringe comedy occurred somewhere on the Venn diagram between the tormented pathology of Curb Your Enthusiasm and the hipster utopianism of High Maintenance. In light of Dunham’s recently released film Sharp Stick, a coming-of-age sex comedy, it is worth revisiting her 62-episode magnum opus – the imperfect and incendiary, but endlessly inventive and thought-provoking sitcom Girls....

James Gunn is calling out the reports that he’s squashing the Green Lantern series at HBO Max. Previously, it had been reported that the streaming platform had in development a new series that would follow multiple Green Lanterns. Prior to Gunn and Peter Safran coming in as the new heads of DC Studios, it had also been reported that the series was getting scaled back to be retooled with a smaller budget....

The final battle between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) came to its conclusion in the new sequel Halloween Ends. While fans and critics may be split on what exactly happened in the film, one observation that many seemed to appreciate was stylizing its opening credits to resemble that of the controversial sequel Halloween III: Season of the Witch. But that was not going to be the only throwback to that movie in Halloween Ends if what happened in the screenplay’s ending actually made it to the screen....

Pablo Schreiber is the iconic Master Chief in the upcoming Halo live-action series. It was first revealed that the show was going to include the popular hero at the end of last year. However, there has not been a lot of news surrounding the Showtime project since then. The show has been in development hell for a number of years, so it’s good to see it is finally moving forward after all of this time....

Haven, Syfy’s original series from leading independent producer Entertainment One (eOne), has been renewed for season two. The 13-episode season will commence production on location in Nova Scotia in Spring 2011 with an eye towards a Summer 2011 premiere. Haven, starring Emily Rose, is based on The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose), who takes up residence in the small town of Haven, Maine and soon discovers the town’s many secrets....
