True History of the Kelly Gang is a feature film based Peter Carey’s novel of the same name. The film is loosely based on the exploits of Australian bushranger Ned Kelly and his gang of dress-wearing affiliates dodging authorities in the mid-19th century. While this is not the first time the story of Ned Kelly has been told, this version has a certain aesthetic to it and is said to be far more gritty and disturbing than most of its predecessors....

Chucky, the television continuation of the Child’s Play franchise, has been nominated for “Outstanding New TV Series” for the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. For it shows “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.” Chucky and the other nominees were announced on Wednesday, January 19. “Media can create positive change and this year’s nominees represent powerful projects, stories, and creators that positively shifted culture and enlightened audiences with new and impactful LGBTQ stories,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis....

The breakout Snap Originals, made-for-mobile shows started on Snapchat, show Breakwater from Retrofit Films is a futuristic YA drama set in a world of climate refugees. Coming in strong for Father’s Day. Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard was easily able to take out the competition at this weekend’s box office. The action comedy sequel debuted with $11.6 million over the weekend, earning the number one spot. The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek, opened on Wednesday and quickly earned $3.9 million. Domestically, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard has earned just over $17 million since Wednesday. While the Father’s Day weekend box office win is certainly positive for Lionsgate, it will be short-lived with F9 opening next week....

The excitement for House of the Dragon is at an all-time high. The long-awaited spinoff to HBO’s mega-hit, Game of Thrones, is set to debut later this month, and the marketing for the series is ramping up. A series of trailers and featurettes have been released over the last few weeks, and HBO set up a Dragon’s Den at San Diego Comic-Con to give fans a real House of the Dragon experience....

Indiana Jones 5 producer Frank Marshall has now revealed further details regarding Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s role in proceedings. Namely, that she is related to Harrison Ford’s intrepid archeologist. Taking to social media, Marshall could not help but comment on an image of Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge taken at the recent D23 Expo, saying, “Indy and his goddaughter, Helena.” Of course, a goddaughter does not have to be blood-related to their godparent, but this comment from Frank Marshall reveals that Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Indiana Jones 5 character, Helena, will already have a relationship with Ford’s adventurer....

While there has been no shortage of zombie fiction in horror, Shudder’s new movie Virus :32 adds something unique to the genre. In the film, humans infected with a zombie-like virus become incredibly hostile, looking to harm anyone else they can get their hands on. After every vicious, violent attack, the zombies go docile for about 32 seconds before they can lash out again. Survivors will have to use these half-minute windows of opportunity to plot every next movie if they’re going to make it....

Many fans were disappointed when it was announced Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 was no longer happening, capping off the Tobey Maguire-led series of movies as a trilogy. One person who felt particularly saddened over the situation is J.K. Simmons, who had been playing J. Jonah Jameson in all three of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. Like Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, Simmons was also on board to reprise his role in the fourth movie, but issues behind the scenes led to the project’s collapse before it managed to get off the ground....

An unfinished tale by J.R.R. Tolkien has been edited by his son into a completed work and will be released next spring, the U.S. and British publishers announced Monday. Christopher Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on The Children of Hurin, an epic tale his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Excerpts of The Children of Hurin, which includes the elves and dwarves of Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings and other works, have been published before....
