When IDW Publishing first released its graphic adaptation of I Am Legend, Richard Matheson’s classic 1954 novel of terror, isolation and vampirism, the trade paperback became an immediate best-seller and quickly sold out. Now IDW will resurrect the out-of-print books with a new deluxe collection that showcases the original novel’s vision in advance of the December film adaptation of I Am Legend starring Will Smith, from Warner Bros. Pictures. The story of the last man on an Earth overrun by undead has seen life as a movie several times already, including the Vincent Price 1964 chiller The Last Man on Earth, which Matheson disliked so much that he removed his name from the writing credits, and Charlton Heston’s The Omega Man, a 1971 film that instead became a commentary on modern society at the expense of the tale’s vampiric elements....

Imagi Animation Studios, the Hong Kong- and Los Angeles-based group behind TMNT, has acquired all rights to the screenplay Fluorescent Black, Variety reports. The script written by sci-fi writer and maker of film shorts Matt Wilson, will first be adapted as a graphic novel to be illustrated by Nathan Fox with text by Wilson. The futuristic action story is set in Singapore and the Malaysian peninsula. The book is scheduled for completion by mid-2008 and will be featured on the cover of the July edition of Heavy Metal magazine....

The 2022 MTV Movie and TV Awards will honor comedy actor Jack Black with a Comedic Genius Award. Black will be only the fifth person to receive the award, which will be presented at this year’s ceremony that will be broadcast live on June 5, as someone who has made a significant contribution to comedy in their career. Having been known for movies such as School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda and the recent Jumanji movies, and providing a lot of entertainment via social media apps such as Tiktok, Black is very much deserving of the accolade....

James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has commented on the recent cancelations of the TV shows Titans and Doom Patrol by HBO Max. Both shows, created by Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti, were running for four seasons before being canceled. Fans of the shows have expressed disappointment and some suspect that the newly launched DC Studios may have played a role in the cancelation. However, Gunn has stated that he had no involvement in the decisions and wished everyone involved in the shows the best of luck in their future projects....

Universal Pictures confirmed today that James Newton Howard will compose the original score for the dramatic adventure King Kong, which is directed by triple Academy Award® winner Peter Jackson. Mr. Howard replaces Howard Shore, who is leaving the project. Peter Jackson made the following statement: “I have greatly enjoyed my collaborations with Howard Shore, whose musical themes made immeasurable contributions to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. During the last few weeks, Howard and I came to realize that we had differing creative aspirations for the score of ‘King Kong....

Recent comments from John Stamos have Jamie Lee Curtis supporting the idea of bringing the actor into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with Collider in an August interview, Stamos suggested he would be up for joining the MCU “in a flash.” He noted that he’s especially interested in doing so after voicing the animated version of Iron Man in the children’s show Spidey and His Amazing Friends. To promote the release of Halloween Ends, Curtis appeared for a new interview on The Drew Barrymore Show....

The pair play against type in the new thriller Jennifer Aniston has been tabloid fodder since her much publicized break-up with Brad Pitt. Which translates to no 1-on-1 interviews during the Derailed press junket. The cast, director, writers, and producer were all lumped into a forty-minute press conference. She handled herself well, although the personal questions were fairly softball. Clive Owen remained quiet overall, but piped up in time to answer the “Bond” and “Sin City” questions....

Jessica Jones is ready for her final run. Marvel and Netflix are parting ways, and season 3 of this superhero action adventure will be the final original Marvel series for the streaming network. The last few episodes will premiere this June, and today, we have a look behind the scenes as star Krysten Ritter takes the helm. Continuing the tradition that Marvel’s Jessica Jones has had of championing women both in front of and behind the camera, this season saw the show’s star Krysten Ritter take on a new role when she had the opportunity to direct the second episode....

Late-night TV star Jimmy Kimmel will return to the Academy Awards next year. Per ABC, it has been officially announced by executive producers and showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner that Kimmel is going to host the Oscars in 2023, marking the third time so far that he’s done the duty. The show is dated to be broadcast live on ABC on March 12, 2023, and the Academy heads don’t seem like they could be any happier with the news....

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced today that Joel McHale will serve as host for the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The 26th edition of the awards will be held at the beach in Santa Monica on Saturday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. The ceremony will air exclusively on IFC in primetime on February 26 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT....

According to ERBZINE.com, a film adaptation of John Carter of Mars is in the pre-production stages at Disney/Pixar. The site states, “The Pixar creative team spent Tuesday morning exploring the massive Edgar Rice Burroughs archives in the ERB, Inc. offices on Ventura Blvd. Pixar’s Jim Morris (vp), Andrew Stanton (director), Mark Andrews (script) discussed the John Carter of Mars film project with Burroughs representatives, Danton Burroughs, Sandra Galfas and Jim Sullos....

Perhaps John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will meet once again in the DCEU. In years past, both Cena and Johnson had performed at the top of WWE, each earning multiple world championships to establish themselves as two of pro wrestling’s biggest stars. They’ve since been dominating Hollywood with their own respective big roles, and it seems inevitable that the two will be sharing the screen one day. It seems like the chances for Cena and The Rock to have an on-screen rematch have increased with both actors making a big mark in the DCEU....

The legal battle lives on. Earlier this year, former lovers Johnny Depp and Amber Heard took their issues to the courtroom following allegations of domestic abuse that had persisted for years. Depp had sued Heard specifically for a Washington Post op-ed she wrote in 2018 describing herself as a survivor of domestic abuse, arguing that the insinuation that he’d abused her ruined his career. The Edward Scissorhands star also claimed he’d been the one who was abused, which includes an incident that resulted in Depp having his fingertip severed....

One of the biggest news items of the day was the announcement of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theatrical reboot from Atlas Entertainment and Paramount Pictures. As most know, the original 1992 movie was remade into the popular TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Joss Whedon, which ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. Joss Whedon will not be a part of this new theatrical remake and E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos reached out to Whedon via email for his reaction to the news....

You didn’t really think it was over, did you? When it comes to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, things are never really that easy for the surviving kids. During its latest season finale, the kids were finally able to escape Isla Nublar, the same island where the original Jurassic Park took place. Unfortunately, the kids weren’t exactly “home-free” yet, with the brand new trailer revealing a whole new island, new dinosaurs, robots, and even a saber-toothed tiger....

The actress who plays Starbuck dishes on the upcoming and final season and the show as a whole Katee Sackhoff has become a fixture in the sci-fi universe for the past three years with her portrayal of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on the hit Sci-Fi Channel series, Battlestar Galactica. The series embarks on its fourth and final season with the season premiere on Friday April 4 at 10 PM ET on the SciFi Channel and I was fortunate enough to be in on a conference call with the young star....

We haven’t heard much at all about a sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass and it seems the follow-up will hit the comic book stands first. Forces of Geek ran a new press release for a new venture by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. entitled CLiNT Magazine, which revealed that a sequel is being planned. Here’s an excerpt from the press release below. The press release is made even more intriguing with the news yesterday that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has officially signed on to direct X-Men: First Class, which is being fast-tracked for a June 3, 2011 release....

The Last Man Standing revival series is recasting Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison, who played Tim Allen’s onscreen daughter Mandy and grandson Boyd. Sources close to the series stated that the two declined to return after Fox picked up the show for a new season. ABC famously cancelled the hit show last year, which left fans as well as the cast and crew stunned. The cancellation seemed to come out of nowhere, which made the announcement of the return that much better for fans of Last Man Standing....
