The Cuban zombie comedy Juan of the Dead has been acquired by Focus World, the new digital distribution arm of Focus Features. The label releases its titles through video on demand and other electronic sell-through platforms such as cable providers, iTunes, Xbox 360, Playstation and YouTube. It is said this deal allows Juan of the Dead to debut at U.S. film festivals, and it will be released in theaters this April through another unnamed distributor....

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF - News), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, announced that it will partner with gospel music icon Kirk Franklin to develop CHURCH BOY, a screen version of his inspirational life story. South Korean actor, singer, and model Lee Min-ho may have recently appeared in the adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko, but he has been one of South Korea’s most famous actors for over a decade. He was the first Korean celebrity to have a wax figure made at Madame Tussauds, and he has starred in some of the best Korean drama series to come out of the peninsula country. Christopher Eccleston will be taking on the role of Cobra’s Number Two, Destro in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, and now for the first time, images of him wearing the famous metal mask of Destro is available. The image comes courtesy of ToplessRobot.com and it seems to confirm that, due to the facial movement that is supposed to be a part of the mask, the mask will be CGI. Now, for the nay-sayers, it is worth pointing out that this is a fairly low-resolution of what seems to be the mask moving, so it will probably appear better on-screen that it does in this image....

Romanian website Hot News has confirmed that the upcoming superhero sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be shot in 3D, with production taking place in Romania. The film will go before cameras this fall, according to Bogdan Monceau, the marketing manager for Romanian production company Castel Film, who relayed the news to the site. This confirms statements star Nicolas Cage made to MTV Movies Blog, who said his character will also encounter Dracula in the sequel....
The latest big name to join the cast of Megalopolis, the big-budget movie in the works from legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, is recent Critics’ Choice Award winner Giancarlo Esposito. Coming off fresh off his award win for playing Gus Fring in Better Call Saul, Deadline reports that the actor has officially boarded the cast of Megalopolis. HBO Max is developing a new comedy series, Unfriendly Black Hotties, which is being co-written and executive produced by Keke Palmer, Jermaine Crawford, and Amy Aniobi. The show is a comedic satire that explores how Gen-Z is weaponizing political correctness, told through the eyes of four high school girls. The show will take the idea of the “unfriendly black hottie,” which has been introduced in movies such as Mean Girls and expand on it through the eyes of its central characters....
Earlier this week, fans of HBO’s critically-acclaimed series The Wire received quite a surprise, when a promo aired on the premium cable network revealing that a “replay marathon” will air nightly on HBO signature starting September 4 at 8 PM.
